There is a full length article on Junior Lewis / C.L.Blast in the latest issue of "In The Basement".
Not got my copy of ‘In The Basement’ #59 yet ......
... but I have got a copy of C.L's South African made LP.
Is there much about how it got cut in the mag article ?
John
Yes, Clarence mentions it in an interview with John Ridley who wrote the article which appears in the mag. Apparently the 1980 Cotillion Album "I Wanna Get Down" hit it big in South Africa, so Clarence went over there to work for three months. He organised a band while he was there, and even got to cut an album titled "Made In Africa" which sadly did not get a release anywhere else.
Another very good Junior Lewis track .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjh8ndnPL_Y
"Hear What I Say" on Columbia.
This cut ain't too bad either .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHFVo3X-CM8
A mid 1963 outing that has a 'Ben E King / Drifters' feel to it.
"Hear What I Say" [[Columbia 45) must date from around summer 1961.
Its sounds quite advanced for a track cut that early.
Definitely one of our unsung artists.
