Larry Buford is a songwriter, singer, journalist and author based in LA.

He was befriended in Detroit by David Ruffin when the Motown move to LA was underway; David had remained in Detroit and Larry was in Detroit writing material that Ruffin was interested in. Larry moved to LA where Berry Gordy's sister Gwen Gordy granted him an exclusive songwriter's contract. [[He signed the contract the day after Marvin Gaye died).

He has a number of songs you can listen to either on You Tube or his website.

The Scherrie Payne tribute to Motown was selected in 2001 by the Mayor of Detroit to celebrate Detroit's 300th birthday.

His tribute to David Ruffin was recorded after David's death, and is reminiscent of David's style.

In addition to current affairs, he covers musical events such as the funeral of Gladys Horton, and an awards ceremony hosted by Cornelius Grant.

His website is http://www.editorialbylarry.com, where you can vist his myspace, youtube originals, archives and guest book. You'll see some very familiar Motown names.

Reading this thread, I initially thought Scherrie Payne had recorded a brand new song, called "Going Back To Motown".
Now I understand the recording is 10 years old?
Ah well, it was just a reminder...? Won't get fooled again!

Hi robertt,, I discovered it through Larry's connection, and posted the video as I thought people would find it interesting ---- I thought it a great song, even if it was recorded 10 years ago. Most people seem unaware of the song but then it seems it was never released.... it was new to me. No misleading intended.....

Too bad this is not an uncommon situation Roberta. So many good songs get lost in the shuffle.

They sure do. Still a shame that Going Back To Motown wasn't a million seller for Scherrie.

Larry Buford is an extremely talented songwriter and author. Larry has given permission to use "Going Back to Motown" by Scherrie Payne to promote the resettling of Detroit. Mayor Bing has offered police, firefighters, and EMS workers attractive housing opportunities if they'll move back to Detroit.
