Florence is still as well known as one would expect someone in her position to be. Her name rings out on Facebook and the net and there are countless Youtube videos about her, accurate or inaccurate. She is not unknown. Attach box office draws to a film about Florence, with a worthy trailer, and people would go see it. Now whether the movie is ultimately successful will depend on how good it turns out and if it resonates with those who see it.
But, again, the biggest issue with a movie about the original Supremes, collectively or individually, is going to be the music rights issue. Without it, the story is as good as dead.
A few months ago I watched Chevalier, a movie about a Classical musician in the 1700s or 1800s. I imagine there are more people in the general public who know the name Florence Ballard than know the name Chevalier, a man who lived 200 years ago.
