Always hated this version, it is the only bad song on an otherwise excellent Moving Violation lp. Brian Holland just went cheap disco on this. It is a beautiful ballad and just doesn't work as a disco song.

Absolutely agree. This song is too lyrically deep for disco. What I hate is that too many people associate this song with Michael and this version. The Commodores did a decent version staying true to the mood of the song, but the Supremes version can’t be topped.

I think it’s great. It’s such a well written song, no matter how it’s sung, it’s gonna be good. One of my favorites by the Jackson’s.

The Holland's take it to its max level here ... those unrestrained strings, the triumphant horns .... John Morales is wonderful here in that like Tom Moulton he isn't out to put his own stamp on it ....no added cheesy electronic noises ...none of that ... no "updating", just a respectful opening up of the original so you can appreciate the specifics of its components ....like the brothers' humming featured at 10:25.

Make no mistake, my favorite version will always be Diana & The Supremes' original, but I do also love HDH's dance version by the J5. You're right, Boogie -- those strings are hot, and the thumping bass-line is cookin'. Now, if only somebody would take Diana's version of "Forever Came Today" and give it an uptempo extended Remix, we'd have the best of both worlds! [[They did it successfully with at least two of Tony Braxton's beautiful ballads -- "Unbreak My Heart" and "I Don't Want To", of which I love both.) Somebody in the know could do the same for Diana's "Forever Came Today".) In fact, I'm surprised somebody hasn't done it already, especially after they did it successfully with Diana's "Someday We'll Be Together" from her 1995 "Diana Remixed" CD.

Interesting Bayou that you hear this record as a ballad....
