Thank you for sharing! I never realized how distinctly you can hear both Mary and Florence on this track. They made some real magic in the studio.

I agree that yet again Mary comes through loud and clear.
The instrumental, along with Mary and Flo’s classic blend almost render any lead superfluous, though as with “WDOLG’, i think M’s Wilson might have done a good job if given the opportunity and additional coaching to shine.
As it stands, one of the groups finest.

Really enjoyed this, loved the harmony of Mary and Flo. Yes I can hear Mary better here. Also loved that farting sax part, never get tired of that.

This must be an alternate backing vocal. I think I have this somewhere on a bootleg. Yes, Mary is leading the chorus loud and clear. She sounds so good, as does Florence. And the Funks are killer on this.

Am I the only one hearing at least one Andante mixed in on the backgound vocals?

if i remember right, there are 2 versions of the backing vocals. but one the stereo version they layered BOTH to create a fuller sound. M and F do an outstanding job of doubling themselves perfectly with both takes except the very first Wooooo. one version has this start ever so slightly later. it's not even a full beat later, just a split second.

on the No 1's cd, you can hear the delayed vocal. on the original combined, you can slightly pick up the emphasized later sound.

but this is why there's such a rich, full backing vocal. and Back was recorded prior to Stop, which also has a fuller, bigger backing vocal. i wonder if they were experimenting with this first on Back and then when they first recorded Stop, they were like "hmmmm - really good but the backing vocals need more" and they didn't have time to do additional vocals with M and F so the As were added. just my thoughts
