    Can You Imagine ...

    Gladys Knight -
perching from a helicopter after a Superbowl performance ?

    Dionne Warwick -
doing a free concert for the masses in Central park?

    Aretha Franklin -
    skipping off to Oz??

Yes to the first two, no to the third. Aretha would have made a great M’s One though.

Honestly, Diana Ross was so over the top that her being whisked away in a helicopter is just what you expect.

Dionne Warwick COULD'VE done a free concert at Central Park if she wanted to. Simon & Garfunkel weren't the flashy, flamboyant acts that Elton and Diana were.

Aretha could've performed in Australia if she got over her plane issues.

Dionne did do at least one concert in Central Park although I don't know if it was free. It is mentioned in the liner notes of her HERE WHERE THERE IS LOVE album.

Good illustrations to make a point.

Would Dionne Warwick not do a free concert??? I’m just not sure how many people would have shown up - probably not masses.

I don’t think Aretha skipped much of anywhere which was probably your point - at least not after the age of 10

I didn’t know that Dionne had performed in Central Park. I’m guessing it was sometime during the 60’s. It’s amazing how those Bacharach/David songs have endured.

I went to a Dionne show in Delaware maybe 10 years or so ago and my impression at the time was that it was some kind of benefit because she had others on the same bill with her. I remember Jean Carne was there, The O'Jays, Glenn Jones, and at least three or four others. I "think" Melba Moore but don't quote me on that. I don't recall the cause they were celebrating but it was something of a charitable nature. But I guess that doesn't necessarily mean that the stars donated their time.

Dionne's performed there a few times. The first that I know of was in 1967. She appeared again in 1974. Again, I don't know if these shows were free. But I think concerts in Central Park used to be a regular thing.

    Or a factual assessment perhaps.

She skated after age 10, why wouldn't she skip?

I confined my comment to after 10 and skipping takes quite a bit of jumping

I said "after age 10". And considering the many times she jumped and bounced onstage, I'm still left wondering what would be so hard for the Queen in skipping. It's not a difficult thing to do, unless one is handicapped, I imagine.

I'm not sure she actually jumps in this video ....more like bounces:

Well there’s some bounce in Jumping Jack Flash - not sure about skipping.

Maybe I should confine my comment to saying Aretha wasn’t a flyer or an athlete; but she must have bounced and skipped at times in her younger years and she certainly was a singer.

ya, I don't think her stage persona is of one who jets around the stage ...

    but anyway,
this is just intended as a lightweight thread ..... not for getting into anything heavy like this
