    The Icon 2 series

These threads about buying Motown CDs inspires this question. Just a few months ago in a record store [[yes I actually found a real STORE) I came across two products that I had never even heard of, much less actually seen. One was by the Temptations and the other by Marvin Gaye.

They were entitled Icon 2 and they each contained two CDs. I was of course familiar with the regular single-disc Icon series because a whole lot of artists released those, both Motown and non Motown, but I had never seen any of these Icon 2 CDs.

So how common were those and were they a Motown only item? Who else had one released?

I believe they came out in 2010 and there were 4 titles:

    Marvin Gaye
    The Temptations
    Jackson 5
    MOTOWN CLASSICS

There were a few different ICON series which seem to be different from each other [[and which were part of larger series which weren't all Motown).

As you describe an ICON 2 2 disc set for Marvin, I'm assuming it's this one:

There's another set of 2 disc versions of which there seem to be 3 listed on Discogs for Motown artists [[but were probably more) as European releases :

    Marvin Gaye [[2004)

    Temptations [[2009)

Diana Ross & The Supremes [[2005)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But as stated there are other types of ICON CDs [[mostly single disc) - take a look here at just some of them
