James Jamerson - Motown Master of the Groove article from 2009

I just learned of the existence of this excellent article on James Jamerson. I had never seen this previously and I don't recall it ever being published on the Motown Forum.

I just thought that all viewers might be interested in seeing it. It is a very informative and great article on James.

Yes a nice article about Jamerson who undoubtedly was a fantastic bass player - no wonder many were influenced by his style. It is a shame the Funks weren't recognised much sooner but conversely would anyone have known who James Jamerson was without Berry Gordy?

Given his talent it is certainly possible he would have gained some recognition as a jazz bassist on upright which is where he likely would have gone eventually without Motown. Possibly even more personal recognition at first since he was virtually unknown during his lifetime but of course not as much as he has now, now that many people know him as "the Motown bassist". It is notable that he didn't just luck into the Motown gig but was sought out by Berry and I think the other Funk Bros. because they already knew he was at least a significant local talent. And thank you woodward for the link to this fine article on my favorite bassist [[I play bass myself).

    A great article

Excellent find, I learned more than what I already knew about the great one, had no idea about the nelson George piece and how that led to the book by Dr Licks.

    Thanks for sharing
