Four Tops - "Never Say No To Your Baby"

This track is shown on their Lost & Found set and shown as "Never Say No To Your Baby" written by Robert Staunton and Robert Walker.

    DFTMC shows the following:

    Never Say No

Four Tops; recorded L.A. / Hitsville-GW, completed 16-Jan-69 ; produced by Frank Wilson, Lawrence Payton, Wade Marcus

25-May-05; CD [[S): Hip-O Select B0003626-02 Lost Without You: Motown Lost And Found [mis-titled "Never Say No To Your Baby"]

But the correct title of the song is "Never Say Naw" written by Percy Mayfield and released in 1963 on Tangerine Records – 45-TRC-927. Maybe DFTMC could be amended. More importantly someone should tell Universal as the royalties must be going astray.

Ray Charles also recorded a version which was on his "Portrait Of Ray" album in 1968.

Personally I do like the song - all good versions.

    Here's Percy Mayfield.

And here's the Four Tops [[Levi solo?). Levi is great on this.

Thanks for clearing up the misinformation about Four Tops' "Never Say Naw" from their Lost And Found set. I always thought that the title was a mistake since "Never Say No To Your Baby" [by Staunton & Walker and released by The Hit Pack in 1965] is clearly a different song.

    You're most welcome Keith.

Just listen to that wonderful vocal by Levi though - stunning!
