Thank you, blackguy69. Not only am I a fan of Marvin Gaye; I am also a fan of basically anything Jimmy Webb writes.

What do you think of Isaac Hayes' 19 minute version?

I saw Jimmy Webb in concert in Glasgow about five years ago and he was great. Told a lot stories between each song about 5th Dimension, Glen Campbell, etc. and even had time to imitate Leonard Cohen for a joke.

Isaac's version is the standard for me. Picture five Black teens about to return to HS planning an agenda to make things right after Summer break, The room is noisy with each scrapping hard to deliver his ideas. The strings emerge from the background at 10:45 and the room goes silent. Each of us still remembers the moment. The LP is a classic work of art.

Ralph 's Tera Sherma studio with Russ as remix engineer played a major role in the success of Isaac's "Hot Buttered Soul" album including "By TheTimeI Get to Phoenix". You can read all sbout it by clicking on the link. Pictures of Ralph and Russ included!

Marvin always wanted to be the black Frank Sinista ....
Me, I just wanted Marvin to be Motown.
