Just Too Much To Hope For

Recorded on Harvey Fuqua's H.P.C imprint by The Two Friends and released 1962. The Two Friends were Wilburt Jackson and Clyde Wilson.

Both had a hand in writing Marvin and Tammi's "More, More, More" and "Give A Little Love" as well as The Monitors "Number 1 In Your Heart".

Clyde Wilson [[also known as Steve Mancha) was also co-writer of The Spinners "I Just Can't Help But Feel The Pain" and later partnered with Ronald Dunbar and others at Hot Wax co-writing "She's Not Just Another Woman" for example. He was a member of 100% Aged In Soul.

Just to clarify [for those who want the details], Tammi Terrell's version of "Just Too Much To Hope For" had the following recording dates:

Produced by Harvey Fuqua. Track recorded July 20, 1965, assigned to The Majestics [[The Monitors); strings added July 27, 1965; track reassigned to Tammi Terrell, overdubs on February 3, 1966; lead vocal cut/recut February 15, 1966; additional overdubs on April 26, 1966.

And, of course, we now know that Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston were also given the same music track and recorded their duet vocals for it on March 8, 1966...but their version was never released until the "Motown Unreleased: 1966" back in 2016.

Not much seems to be known about Davern Neally.

The writers of the two sides to his single are listed above as James Nyx and Robert White. Robert White we know well and Nyx was a Motown songwriter who penned several songs with Marvin Gaye - including "We Can Make It Baby" for The Originals. It's always fascinating finding out more about the personnel involved - and here the Harvey Fuqua links are really apparent.

Wikipedia has this on James Nyx https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Nyx_Jr.
