Martha Reeves & The Sweet Things - King Midas

We don’t talk enough about Martha’s fine work on the Willie Dynamite soundtrack—one of my favorite films of the 1970s. This track, so hauntingly beautiful, is used to great [if brief] effect at a crucial point in the movie [albeit with an alternate vocal take]. [DISCLAIMER: Yes, I realize this is a post-Motown project, but what better place to post anything by the woman affectionately referred to on these boards as Motown’s “First Lady” than here?] [looking at you, @Roberta75!]:

I really love Martha's voice on the MCA recordings.

Re the WILLIE DYNAMITE soundtrack, my favorite is WILLIE D.

Glad I'm not the only one who digs this project! Incidentally, can anyone identify Martha's "Sweet Things" for me? Drop-dead gorgeous harmonies!

Clydie King was one of them. In her book, Martha identified the other two as "Jeanie and Fran." She didn't give last names.

Figured Clydie might have been in the bunch. You're the best!

Thank you sansradio. Just beautiful and sexy and silky and smooth. The First Lady of Motown Records voice really shines here.

A Tuesday treat. Thank you and as Dr Reeves would say. Bless You.

Guess Fran would have been Francine Hurd Barker [[an ex Peaches of P & Herb).
