So much goodness it's almost overwhelming but in a most excellent and exciting way! "That's The Night Love Died" by the Elgin's, oh my Lord that is an amazing song. I'll never understand how nobody heard the potential in that one. I'm still listening and it's just getting better with each song!

Ok, good to know! I forgot David Ruffin recorded "What You Gave Me" and such a treat hearing Kim Weston and the Marvelettes.

I was pleased to find out I could listen to this after the fact as opposed to having to catch it live. Very interesting tracks and as you intended, there was not a "major hit" to be found. I remember liking the songs by Marv Johnson, The Elgins and The Contours. Also enjoy your Vandellas and Marvelettes choices.

I enjoyed it Larry. I loved your selection too.

Mrs Edwards was behind any possible avenue to promote the group. After all, it was her son that started it all for them. So Mrs Edwards would have put the Velvelettes forward for Aint No Place Like Motown.

Thanks Guys for listening to the podcast, and the feedback is appreciated.
As stated, the aim is promote the lesser known, overlooked, forgotten tracks from 59-75.

For our USA friends information, the UK Motown interest is mainly split between obvious BIG hits [[ Pop stations, repeatedly featured) and rarer items [[ Northern Soul / Rare Soul serious collectors).
In between is the overlooked, under played, ignored.....or just unknown.
"That Motown Sound" tries to cover this middle ground.

The tracks sound good and there are some favourites of mine in there.

"Day By Day Or Never" is a great song whether by Chris or Bobby Taylor - but the backing vocals come through strongly on Chris's and sound great on the podcast too.

"Ame Cherie" love the organ sound on that.

"I'm Here Again" - very fond of Thelma and I do like this one although it sounds a little samey. I also like "Don't Pity Me" which is one that doesn't seem to feature that much - if you take requests - that's mine lol.

"Where Were You" - fabulous Brenda - very much of its time but yet never loses its appeal for me.

"How Can I Say I'm Sorry" - great vocal by Jimmy Ruffin on this. The whole album [["Sings Top Ten"/"The Jimmy Ruffin Way") is perfect.

Thanks for the link and the listen.

At present, the shows are up for 7 days, replaced by new one each week.
However I'm raising this with nmfm to see if more shows can be retained on the database.

Well got here at last Larry! Of course some familiar tracks although I’d never heard the Marvin before, or the early tracks Just be yourself and Camel Walk, which I’d heard of. I’ve developed a great liking for those early days Motown tracks, they have a sound of their own. I had a couple of the Ruffin Van McCoy albums, but quickly tired of them, and I won’t be paying a return visit anytime soon! But keep up the good work… and how about playing Martha’s Love, Guess Who, which shares with Love A gogo an Ernie Shelby writing credit, possibly his only two at Motown. He went on to be a big wheel at Solar Records

    Hello John
Hope you enjoyed the shiw, feedback always welcome.
The Martha track is a must BUT there are SO many MR & TV tracks to play that she could take over the playlist.
I wanted a 59-63 slot each week to showcase the early formative years and spotlight the early artists.
    Thanks for tuning in.

Another great selection there and a mention for my Top 5 from those [[in order of play). Thanks for the show.

1 I GOT A FEELING - FOUR TOPS - It's just a wonderful happy sound from The Tops. Never tire of it.

2 LOVE A GO-GO - STEVIE WONDER - The older I get, the more I like this. Could even be my favourite Stevie track at times.

5 CHEATING IS TELLING ON YOU - LOLLIPOPS. A track that means summer to me - I first heard it on the UK LP "The Motown Sound" which is awesome [[more on that later).

13 DON'T PITY ME - THELMA HOUSTON Love this sound from Thelma. Thanks for including it. Love Thelma generally too - especially "Sunshower" and her first Mowest album [[UK issue of course).

15 WHATCHA GONNA DO - TERRY JOHNSON. There's that summer feeling again and I've always loved this song since I first heard it on "The Motown Sound" UK album STML11217. The version on there is by far my favourite and it's the only place it appears [[except for the noisy needle drop I posted on YouTube and also on the cassette version of the same album). Great song either way.

That LP has great memories - it was so different to me at the time and most of the tracks I hadn't previously heard. I lived in Hyde [[Greater Manchester) then and my Motown mania started at Thursday discos at Hyde Town Hall from around 1970.

More great tracks there - given the number of fab Motown tracks to choose from, your show could run for years.

1 IT'S SO HARD BEING A LOSER CONTOURS - Absolute favourite Contours track - first heard it on the UK 16 Big Hits Volume 6 [[as with most tracks on that LP including The Elgins "It's Been A Long Long Time" which I fell in love with).

3 WHAT A GOOD MAN HE IS TAMMI TERRELL - The whole "Irresistible" album is really good. A 50p purchase from Woolworth's in Ashton Under Lyne back then. Replaced by lovely CD[[s).

11 WHEN I NEEDED YOU LITTLE IVA & HER BAND - Miss Ray's tribute to Berry Gordy. That's love.

12 BLIBBERIN', BLABBIN' BLUES GINO PARKS - corny but I do like listening to this one.

16 GET THE CREAM OFF THE TOP EDDIE KENDRICKS - from the Holland Holland return to Motown period I think.

17 STORMY DIANA ROSS & SUPREMES - Just sublime. They did a great job with this one and I love hearing it.
