    Grammy Salute

So I saw that the Beach Boys were given a prime time CBS[[?) two hour Grammy Salute tribute show last night. Admittedly, it pissed me off to know that it was on. Not because I hate the Beach Boys. To the contrary, I love their work. But this is the kind of thing I was talking about regarding the Supremes and could have been done around the time of their lifetime achievement award. What do you think the chances are that we'll see this type of show for the Supremes at some point?

i'm assuming the Recording Association didn't just pull this together on their own. who were the producers? I don't know the BB history that well but i'd assume Brian Wilson eventually created his own publishing company and production company? was this done in conjunction with them?

the individual supremes never had any of this [[until Diana was at RCA) so the only entity that could really do something like this would be Motown/Universal

Sadly, I don't think we will.

The Beach Boys have maintained a contemporary presence, with their annual tours, various documentaries, tv appearances and even a hit in 1988, KOKOMO.

By comparison, in the minds of the general public, the Supremes ended when Diana left. And now with Diana being the only visible surviving member from their most successful period, I don't see similar attention being paid to them, which is sad. I could see such a special being done for Diana as she has such a vast catalog and in recent years, I think people are recognizing her for the treasure she is as opposed to the "Call Her Miss Ross" years.

To the best of my knowledge, this was the second such show......Paul Simon being the first a few months ago. I would assume that it is a costly project to assemble all those stars for such a special, so for that reason, I cannot imagine it ever being a regular thing. Having said that, there would CERTAINLY be a ton of deserving candidates and they would never run out of nominees.

They've done quite a few of these in recent years. I remember salutes to Aretha, Stevie Wonder, Prince, etc.

I think they’ll do it right after the Andrew Sisters one.

If receiving their Lifetime Grammy Award was any indication, we may have to wait 50+ years for that tribute. It is just never going to happen. The general public who knows who the Supremes are have been slowly passing away. I don't ever see the Supremes having this, just like there will be no play or movie about the truth of the Supremes, Dreamgirls-a work of fiction based on them-has seen to that.

I read an article on the members of the Beach Boys - seems to me the bad feelings and law suits dwarfed anything that happened between the Supremes and/or Berry

If Diana Ross were amendable, I could see a Grammy produced Salute to Diana Ross special with Miss Ross and family in attendance. There could be a Supremes segment, or Supremes songs scattered throughout the show. Such a special could jog Diana's memory about songs she recorded over the years!
