    Mahogany - the tv series

IMO one problem the movie has is that it whirls through the life and times too quickly. nothing can really establish because they're already onto the next scene

so would the concept have worked better as a tv show/drama? Tracy's struggles in Chicago, her dead-end job, other romances that didn't pan out, on again/off again with Brian, fashion school, being discovered, europe, the highs and lows of europe, etc.

not saying that Diana would have been able to commit to a tv series. I think she could have handled the acting requirements though.

I think it would have been a great concept for a tv series, but agree that Diana would not have been able to commit to something like that.

Of course there was always the mini series route, but that would not have been in keeping with the goal of making Diana a movie star.

Perhaps if the movie was set up in parts.

Mahogany...Tracy's life in Chicago: her job, romances, Brian, fashion school, family issues, being discovered and then having to weigh chasing the dream or sticking with the man she loves or even dealing with the fallout with the family for "running off to God knows what". At the end we see Tracy make this decision by leaving on a plane.

Mahogany II: Tracy In Paris... We see Tracy in the fashion world, early stumbles and hinderances because of her race or her weight, the svengali in her life opening her mind to the biggest possibilities and then orchestrating her path with prices that ultimately end up too high to pay. She becomes the toast of Europe only to find that life at the top aint all it's cracked up to be, especially when the man you love isn't around to share in it.

Mahogany III: Tracy Back At Home.

In Mahogany III: Tracy Back At Home...Tracy returns to Brian. They get married, start a family. Tracy opens her own fashion design business as well as help Brian in his mission to help the people. In the end, Brian has done a fantastic job of reinvigorating the economy of the southside while Tracy has amassed enough wealth to purchase the department store she once worked at and fires that nasty boss of hers.

The theme song for the first movie would be "Do You Know Where You're Going To". The theme for the second would be "Did You Think It Would Be Like This". The third theme would be "Can You Believe You're Back Here Again?"

i'd forgotten about mini series!! oh that might have been fun!!

either a full series or a mini series might have really worked [[of course i know she'd not have been able to do that but fun to contemplate). with the movie it's like they literally sat down with a pad of paper and jotted down every cliche melodrama idea and crammed it into one movie. the only thing missing was Aunt Flo being stricken with ovarian cancer lol

Brian runs for President and wins popular vote but loses in the Electoral College.

Tracy designs a "basic swimsuit" and becomes a millionaire. Tracey writes her autobiography, which also becomes a best-selling book, aptly entitled, "...And along came the Thong." Folks, this was the Speedo 1970's. The thong was revolutionary! Ha!Ha!Ha!
