Very sad news regarding legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach's death at the age of 94.

A musical genius. I cannot put into words just how much his gift of music has meant to me over the past 60+ years.
His music will still be played in 100's of years time.
May he rest in eternal peace, and thank you for your gift of music Sir.

Such a big loss. I yelled "No!" out loud when I saw this news come across my tv screen.

I don't often respond to these threads, but this is a great loss.

Burt Bacharach rewrote the rules for how pop songs could be constructed, with different tempos, chord changes, key changes etc.

Just listen to "One Less Bell To Answer" to hear how to write a wonderful but very individual song that picks the listener up and carries them away.

Still, everyone in Rock and Roll Heaven is likely to hear some great stuff if Burt hangs out with Hal David again.

The one cool thing in this is that he stayed timeless and kind of ageless - he looked much younger and I had no idea he was 94.

It's hard not to be affected by the loss of so many of these singers and songwriters.

Excellent point but let's face it........was there a weak cut ANYWHERE on that album? Not to change the subject but I just heard Robert Parker's "Barefootin" on another CD and as good a song as it is, The Marvelettes blew him out of the water with their version.

Just to add my feelings of loss to those recorded here. A true giant has passed away. I certainly agree about the Marvelettes`cover of Message to Michael. There are other exellent Motown covers of Bacharach/David covers: eg Martha Reeves and the Vandellas` excellent covers of [[There's) Always Something There To Remind Me, and I Say A Little Prayer on Ridin' High, and Levi Stubbs and the Tops covered The Look of Love on Soul Spin [[beautifully too!). Could we put together a virtual album of such covers? There must be many more..
