The Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement: The Supremes

This Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement to The Supremes should have been awarded during the Prime Time Grammy Awards Show, which also should of had tribute performances of Supremes' songs and televised clips of The Supremes.

Often The Supremes appeared in televised prime time shows. This is the setting that the award should have been presented.

Paul McCartney was awarded his lifetime achievement award in 1990 during a Primetime Grammy Telecast. I think this is the main reason Diana Ross did not attend the afternoon presentation.

Shirley Chisholm said if there is no seat for you at the table, then bring your own chair.

I wish Diana Ross had won a Grammy for her album, "Thank You". It is an achievement that she is the Executive Producer of The Album. Also winning the award would heal the fact that The Supremes never received a Grammy Award in a Competitive Field.

Why is the Traditional Pop Vocal Album Grammy Award presentation not included in the Primetime Telecast?

Not even filmed clips of the presentation!

Diana had no problem with being present to accept her Lifetime Achievement Grammy for her solo career in 2012. It was presented to her during the non-televised ceremony.

I too was surprised that the Lifetime Achievement Award was not presented live. I thought that was pretty much standard procedure at awards shows. The fact that the group is no longer active might have had something to do with it.

The focus of grammy broadcasts in last 10-15 years has been on performances, not giving out awards and honors. Most of them are presented either the night before such as the lifetime achievement awards, or in the afternoon before the main show [[there are so many categories they can't award them all in the prime time ceremony as that would make for dull viewing). Focusing on performances can make for a better show, if the performers and music can deliver. The point of the show now is to sell music, whether a recording or a concert tour.

Yes, Carlo is correct. Miss Ross did appear for her lifetime achievement award and it was not telecast. Many things aren't like Comedy and Spoken Word, which Dave Chapelle won and Viola Davis won, making her an EGOT. If Miss Ross was not going to appear for this honor as a member of the Supremes than she could have very easily sent one of her children or a representative to accept it. This was the same format as her award in 2012, where she did show up to accept it-it was not telecast.

It was a surprise that the Lifetime Achievement Award recipients weren't even mentioned during the telecast. Usually there would a brief mention and they would show the recipients if they were seated in the audience. Not sure why they dropped that this year.

For a few years before Covid hit, PBS did specials honoring the Special Merit award recipients, such as the Lifetime recipients, Trustee Award recipients, etc . It would be great if they brought those back.

in general award shows have struggled to maintain viewership and ratings. there are so many shows now and so many other things to watch. decades ago, there were only a couple award shows and there were also only 3 channels. stars also didn't have social media, internet, videos, etc to be seen so the award shows had more prestige and people tuned in.

so in an effort to maintain viewership, they've focused on only the truly most popular segments. Lifetime Achievement isn't really one, especially since it typically involves much older artists and award recipients.
