Jackson 5 - Diana Ross Presents on CD

Might just be me but this album seems to get different treatment on CD to the other early J5 Motown albums. Didn't see release at all in the Polygram series of CDs [[31453-530-xxx-2 / 530 xxx-2).

Boxed sets and similar used the MOTD-5129 derivative whereas, for example "ABC" received a remaster during the later Polygram days.

And it appears that the only remastered release is on the Japanese CDs
    UICY-75783 [[2013) and UICY-78882 [[2019).

It has been released several times in tandem with "ABC" on 2on1 type issue,

Any thoughts on this albumon CD?

Nothing specific about this album but I do think that all the J5 Motown lps should be / should have been released as expanded editions, due to the stature of the band and the excellence of the lps. I wonder if such a project was ever considered?

There a some noisy, octave stretching cuts that wisely didn’t get single releases. Some great tracks as well, but I’ve always thought of this as half great/half not. It’s certainly sold well on the strength of one single, but they were an overnight phenomenon. Jermaine shines on his solos.

This was reissued in the UK as CD1 of a slip box set, 5 classic albums in 2016. I think the set cost less than £10 and was issued on Tamla Motown/Spectrum 0075374443.

I have that ‘5 Classic Albums’ set!

I’ve always thought that this was a good album, it's just hard to match the sheer, effortless brilliance of "I Want You Back".

Although their version of "Who's Lovin' You" totally does. And, nice covers of Motown tunes like "Born To Love You" and "[[I Know) I’m Losing You" as well.

I've got the 2fer release of Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5/ABC from 2001. They included "Oh, I've Been Blessed" from the first album's sessions as a bonus track on this comp. While I think the albums are hit & miss, they are still fun to listen to all these years later.
