    Me too but....

Many of these releases are of more benefit to the youngsters and the fact that some of the more "wiser" posters already have most of these tracks is hopefully an indication to the newbies that these albums are worth buying.

Looks a worthwhile collection to me ..

From the tracks that I know [[ about two thirds of them ) it looks to be aimed at the "Northern Soul" market, and as I can think of a number of other tracks from Curtom/Mayfield etc. that also fit in that format I'm speculating that there could eventually be a Volume Two.

Who knows .. they might be able to include some of the Windy-C material from THE FIVE STAIRSEPS, like this little goodie ..

The majority of these songs were on the Curtom Story box CD. Only a few of the selections weren't included.

Theboyfromxtown...thanks for posting I've just pre-ordered it, as there is enough I haven't got to warrant purchase & seeing I've got all the other Outta Sight releases...why not.

My only concern with those old box sets was that Charly were involved. The sound could be variable even to the untrained ear.

Hi theboyfromxtown...where is the Charly connection with the Outta Sight CD's, it is not evident from any of the other releases I own, they don't even get a mention in the small print.

Outta Sight is not connected, other than releasing similar licensed product, with Charly .Projects for the future I understand include a Stairsteps cd including the Windy C releases [[ref previous posting) and scarce albums from other artists, as well as more compilations aimed at northern and label collectors.Should be some interesting releases to come on cd and 45s.

CD arrived today & I am presently enjoying listening to it, a good cover version of The Rascals "You Better Run", nice booklet with scans & pictures, even the CD would make a nice clock once you've ripped it to your computer, only one noticeable mistake in notes "Little Young Lover" by Major Lance described as originally being recorded by the Stairsteps, when in fact it is a re-recording of Major's own Okeh outing. Overall another excellent release from Outta Sight with enough new to me stuff to warrant purchase good buy & good bye.

    Mr Soul

Sorry for the delay. I think I was drifiting from one of Roger's links and saw the Charly box sets. I have those Outta Sight releases too but I am not aware of any connection they have with Charly.

As for Charly, they once produced fine sets but then something happened and everything changed. The quality suddenly got bad.

Mr Soul .. There was also a version of "Little Young Lover" by THE IMPRESSIONS from 1962/3 which I believe predates the MAJOR LANCE Okeh version.

Found it on you-tube too ..

How remiss of me Roger, yes the Impressions version is from 1962, now you know why I don't write the liner notes for CD's, although I was partly right the song is a re-recording of his Okeh outing. According to the Impressions complete A & B sides, it was the follow up to Gypsy Woman & per Billboard neither artist charted, the Stairsteps did chart with the song albeit as a B side of "Baby Make Me Feel So Good". Now I'm not familiar with the Stairsteps version anyone know if they use the same backing track as the Major's re-recorded version

Mr Soul .. This is THE STAIRSTEPS version .. it does sound like it is the same backing track as MAJOR LANCE ..

It got a CD release last year as one of the tracks on the rereleased "Loves Happening" L.P.

Now isn't that just typical!! I wait 20 years for a STAIRSTEPS Curtom Material C.D. then two come along in a matter of months .. I'm sure that these record companies are in cahoots with the London Buses ..

And to add insult to injury there are a handful of tracks on this new C.D. that I don't yet have .. as most of them are on either my "Loves Happening" C.D. or on the Collectables compilation of the Windy C material as seen here ..

The perils of being a Soul music fanatic!! LOL!!

Back to THE STAIRSTEPS version of "Little Young Lover" .. on my U.K. Buddah 45 it is the "B" side of "We Must Be In Love" .. BUDDAH 201070, published 1969.

I have just received my copy of Windy City winners, and recently also bought Tears full of soul and Diggin' for soul, all from Outta Sight, and have found all of them excellent. Looking at some of the names of the people behind this company, it seems that some of them were people who had been involved with the now defunct Goldmine CDs. The quality of some of the tracks on the Goldmine CDs was of dubious quality, and it's no secret that many of them were taken directly from vinyl. Also there was doubt as to whether the appropriate permissions had been obtained. If this is the case, and the former Goldmine people are the ones behind Outta Sight, it seems that lessons have been learned [[possibly from the excellent Ace/Kent CDs) and the product from outta sight is first class, and at a good price. I look forward to being able to fill in some gaps in my collection.

Hi Roger, according to the Billboard book it list "Little Young Lover" as the B side of both records, although "Baby Make Me Feel So Good" was released first, the book also puts a value of $8 on your single, so clearly a shrewd investment lol. Re the new CD I've already got 7 of the songs on the Curtom Chartbusters 2CD from 1999, so it'll be nice to have the rest & all in one place, however that CD is rapidly becoming redundant. The perils of being a Soul music fanatic! you are not alone, I've been known to buy a great CD twice because it was at a bargain price the second time around.
