I've found them pretty much the same. I average 3/6 and 4/6. Last week I got my first 2/6 and in the same week I got 2 losses. I've played 94 games and average 97% wins.

I start with OUNCE. If none of those letters are in use then my second word is TRAIL. So within the first 2 words I have used 5 vowels and 5 consonants.

I won't stop using OUNCE because I am hoping it will be the word of the day and I will get my first 1/6. Sad I know. When we had the UK puzzle I also did about 250 archived puzzles and OUNCE never came up. I bet it will come up on a day I forget to play. Just like you fear when you forget to play your number in the lottery.

I understand that if I use a different first word every day then I would increase my chances of solving the puzzle on the first word.

I'm doing pretty well of late. Had two 2/6 last week, both of which were lucky. It depends on how lucky I get with my first guess. Two letters usually gets it within three or four guesses. Of late, I'm simply finding where a couple of letters go and using logic to figure out the rest. Takes a while, but it's worked. Took me five guesses today, but I wasted my second guess by putting the same two letters in the same spots.

My sister texted me at 7:40 this morning [[grrrr) to brag that she solved in two words.

Jerry, when I saw your comment and solve I had to try immediately. I also did it in less than a minute.

Wow! You got it with ONE YELLOW LETTER in the first guess? That's nuts! I'd play the lotto the day that happened to me.

I didn’t expect to get it in two tries. It was luck with a touch of strategy.

I played my same first word I always play. The yellow square was a consonant. None of the 3 vowels lit up. So I went to my second word that I always play that has the other two vowels and I substituted the consonant. I was surprised but very pleased with myself.

There was one called Quordle that I’ve heard about. I tried it, I liked it.

It had one of the types of words that’s annoying. The last four letters were INER. I was going to use an L but decided to play an M, then an F, then a D. Turns out L was the correct letter after all. I lost.

Yes, yesterday’s was a challenge. I also got it in 5.

Today a bit easier. Annoyed I just missed solving it in 2.

I’ve been playing Quordle which is 4 boards at once with 9 attempts permitted. It’s very challenging. I think I’m at about only 25% wins.

Yeah, it's the luck of the draw.

My sister who solved in two words the other day said it took her 5 attempts today.

I did a Quordle yesterday and couldn't figure out a word in 9 tries.

I had C A _ _ O. The remaining letters from the keyboard did not make legitimate words.

Turns out it was cacao. Grrrr, I hate those repeating letters.

The frustrating part is that this was the first of the four grids so proceeding to the other grids seemed unlikely. You have to get the first word before you can proceed to the next grid. When you type into the first grid those letters also populate the other 3 grids and you can see the progress in those grids, as well. When I looked at the other 3 grids I had a good idea of those words. I used the first grid to type the words for the other grids and was able to complete those and then just gave up on grid one. A loss, yes, but a triumph in finding a work-around to at least achieve a little satisfaction.

I take my victories where I can these days. Sometimes, they're moral victories from giving a good effort in spite of coming short. That was almost the case today.

Not sure how long it took. I’m getting myself confused because I also play on a site that allows unlimited play with Wordle, Dordle, Quordle and Octordle. It’s fun but I’m wasting too much time.

Ironically the site used the word fetus which was a controversy last week on the NYT site. And another time I attempted the word penis and it said word not found. Seems like penis is less offensive than fetus.
