What is Wordle?

"Wordle is a daily word game you can find online here. It's fun, simple and, like a crossword, can only be played once a day. Every 24 hours there's a new word of the day, and it's up to you to figure out what it is. Where do I find Wordle? The game is web-based, so there's no official app to download [although it's not for lack of trying by a few copycats].

Yeah, it's just a word game. But it's super popular: Over 300,000 people play it daily, according to The New York Times. That popularity may sound perplexing, but there are a few tiny details that have resulted in everyone going absolutely bonkers for it."

Guess the WORDLE in 6 tries.

Each guess must be a valid 5 letter word. Hit the enter button to submit. After each guess, the color of the tiles will change to show how close your guess was to the word. Letters that are in the word and are in the correct spot will then turn green, letters that are in the word but in a different spot will be yellow, and letters not in the word of the day will be gray.

A new WORDLE will appear each day.

BTW, letters can repeat. You might not know that.

The "kids" post their final results with just the boxes with no letters. That's tricky
to obtain.

Until your post, I didn't know there was an archive. Looked it up and lo and behold, solved my very first game with two guesses. Even a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while!

after three tries. The word was an odd one.

We have a weekday TV quiz based on these rules. It's called "Lingo" and it's on ITV at 3pm.

Lingo seems to require two players or two teams, while Wordle can be played alone -- good for solitary people while isolating.

Oh, somebody else lost one? I thought I was getting down and then I dropped one. I had X X C A L in my fourth guess. Of course, my next was L O C A L [stupidly ignoring the lack of an "L" in the first letter of my previous guess; duh!]. My sixth guess was V O C A L and the answer [obviously] was F O C A L.

OMG! Great word game. It is similar to the Lingo quiz show on UK TV, but on there they give you the first letter!! This is harder

Let's see if I can explain this ... Click on the icon at the top right of the daily game page. It is to the left of the star and looks a little like a three vertical bars. A window will open with an option to share. Select that and a message will appear that says "Copied results to clipboard." From there you can paste your blanked out results into Soulful Detroit, it seems.

I found this out through tenacity. I have no instinct about this. Just tried and got lucky.
As you know, I have much experience cutting and pasting into SD these days.

That's exactly what I did. It pastes correctly in other sites [Twitter, other message boards] but not on SDF. I post it in other sites with regularity. There's something odd about my site privileges.

Getting my groove back. I almost lost it yesterday. I wasted one guess
using a letter that had already been disqualified. Today I tried something
that wasn´t a word. The game was kind enough to let me know without
penalty.

I'm enjoying this game, so far, after only one week. In addition to the daily game, I'm also doing 10 games from the archive each day. Some words are easy others a challenge. I use the "Hard Mode" setting which alerts you if you don't use a "revealed hint" in a "subsequent game". That helps a bit, although I am careful not to make that mistake.

Okay, I thought I was on Candid Camera for today's puzzle. Zero correct letters in the first attempt and then, guessed the word on the second try. First time I've gotten one in two guesses. Might be a good day to play the lotto.

Saw that story this morning. I got myself all comfortable in front of the TV hoping for an interesting feature but it was a light commentary instead. Still entertaining.

I have been doing 10 games a day from the archive. Today I had a toughie on Day 69, [I think]. The word was OFFAL. Not sure I ever heard that word before. I plugged it in on my 5th try as a wild guess.

Has anyone tried 6-letter games? I think I'll wait until I finish the archive 5-letter games.

Oh, the keyboard is a lifesaver. It's like having crossed out letters when playing Hangman. Just saw where the New York Times bought the website. Good from the standpoint of keeping the bootleg apps from flooding the market, but bad from the standpoint of inevitable ads and possible erosion of game integrity.
