I watched the documentary Hitsville USA: The Making of Motown the other week. [[I loved it, it was awesome, of course ) One of the bits that stuck with me was when Smokey was talking about how Berry taught him to write a song: like a story, with a beginning, a middle, and an end.

Then, the other day, this song, from the expanded edition of The Artistry of Brenda Holloway, came up on shuffle. I had never heard it before, and I had no idea who had written or produced it, but once I had listened to it, I just knew it was a Smokey song.



So, I just thought it was an excellent example of how to write an excellent song.
