I feel pretty confident in saying that no one has ever used that particular pronunciation before

This went viral. It’s hilarious. No harm no foul. Just a funny moment from one of our legends.
Hmmm... I wonder who the father is???... I used to live right down the street from Smokey in Detroit on Santa Barbara where it must have been... I knew mostly all the people on those two blocks???...
Ok,what is-chanuckah?
LOL. Too cute!
I was wondering when you were going to chime in, Stubass! Smokey lived in our integrated neighborhood at that time, mostly jewish neighbors. I wondered since he lived in the neighborhood, why he couldn't pronounce it right, but then again, back in the day, I never saw it spelled with a "C". Perhaps he was so busy at the time, he didn't learn that from his neighbors. He is trending, like Dionne Warwick. They even had a skit on Smokey during Saturday Night Live last Saturday!
I'm pretty sure Smokey knew exactly what he was saying and was putting everyone on...Still trying to figure out who Michael is... Went house by house across the street from Smokey in my mind, since I knew most of the families... Of course telling his kids that he lived "across the street" depends on what "across the street" means???...

Poor Smokey. I sure hope this isn't the onset of dementia, like sadly some of our favorite Motown stars suffer with. God bless him and his 80 years with us.
I think he probably just never knew that that word can be spelled with an H, which is the most common of course, or with a C at the beginning. It’s like suddenly trying to pronounce a word you’ve only read in books but never heard anyone say. It can come out awfully strange sometimes.
He probably knew very well how Chanukah should be pronounced, but didn't realise from that particular spelling that it was the same word.
