    Who recorded Grapevine first?

Wasn’t it the Miracles on one of their albums?

The Isley's claimed to have recorded it too. I guess Norman wiped their vocals from the track 'cause their version doesn't exist anymore.

That’s what I’ve always assumed. If that is indeed what happened, it sucks because I’d love to hear Ron Isley cut his teeth on that song.

The Miracles recorded two versions, the first in August 66 and a second version recorded in May '68. Both have been released.

I've heard that Norman Whitfield used the backing track that The Isley's used for their version of "Grapevine" [[after removing their vocal tracks) for The Temptations take on the song for the Cloud Nine LP.

Don’t think the Isleys would have recorded it to the same backing track as the Tempts’ version. The Isleys I reckon made their last recordings at Motown in 1967. The Temptations’ version has that 1968/69 Whitfield Cloud Nine sound. His productions didn’t sound like that in 67

Grape, some of the acts you listed never recorded 'Grapevine' they only sung it live on TV shows. e.g. Dusty, Amy & Paul, Fairport Convention. You missed out my fav version by the Slits

Nice list. I'm going to try to listen to all of them on youtube ....

I also thought ZAPP did IHITTG, but it's not on any of their albums. It was a solo project
