The Softones were never household names, but achieved a sizable cult following over the years. Their lead singer, J. Marvin Brown had a falsetto worthy of Eddie Kendricks himself. Sadly there’s no details of his passing at this time.

The Softones were a household name on the east coast. Marvin Brwon had one of the best voices that ever recorded for Avco Records.
I love the softones, saw em in concert back in the day,and for my money[marvin brown was the best first tenor since eddie kendricks]that's how highly i thought of his talent...r.i.p.
One of the first commercial 12" ers.
Credited as The Softones but I only hear Marvin Brown:
The great Horace Ott arranging [[ Village People , Richie Family)
RIP
Marvin Brown
Marvin was a friend and a fellow tenor. One of the smoothest voices I ever heard.
Rest in peace Marvin.
