I'm increasingly finding, whenever I meet new people, that they remind me of someone I've already met.

In looks or in character? A lot of new people seem to fit into stereotypes until you get to know them better, and then you may find they're completely unpredictable.

Very true 144man...........I have one at work who seems/acts like a snob [[and I am not the only one who feels that way). What I guessed [[and confirmed) was how insecure she is and that's her way of coping. She's a good person, but you have to watch this. Shyness has never been one of my outstanding traits so everyone looks to me to tend to this. I do it for everyone & we all get along.

144man, it's the similarity in looks that I notice. The eyes might be the same, the smile, the walk - things like that. Generally, it's a positive feeling, and something that I like, rather than dislike.

Now, character, hmmm, that is much more complex. It's said that human nature doesn't change, but yes,there are so many combinations, even within each of us on a day-to-day basis, that it does seem to be ever-changing.

Being in the company of people with Moe's disposition is an indication of clarity to me,and the day skips by. I can then listen, and contribute as and when necessary. At work, it's especially important to keep it that way, if at all possible.

On a personal level, one-to-one with friends away from work, things can start to get a bit deeper, the more I get to know a person. And, I guess, vice versa!

Some of the other people I know or meet in a day, even if briefly, take a little longer to know and understand. As Moe says, they often are compensating for something. It could well be something for which I would not criticise them, but they may be of the mindset of thinking that I or anyone else might be likely to do so. Defensive! To make any progress with them, they need allowances to be made - but there's not always such a lot of time to do that....

Generally, taking people on face value does come easiest, in the first instance!

I don't find first impressions as reliable as I used to. I wonder if people are getting more savvy to things like body language.

Yes, I think we do hear all about body language [[years ago, it was just 'stand up straight, and put your shoulders back' - ha!), but spontaneous movements are hard to conceal.

I don't expect as much as maybe I did before. Simpler to accept people for what they are, not who or what I might think they should be. That way, I don't become too disappointed, but am still quite often surprised, and impressed.

Lowering one's expectations is necessary today but disappointing. You give a lot you expect a lot. Example: you tell people a time to be at a certain place. They are not on time [[some) and you are. Quite disappointing!

Yes moe, unfulfilled expectations are indeed disappointing, aren't they! Getting around them and dealing with intense feelings of irritation can be time-consuming. And expensive, in terms of strong coffee...

I'm learning always to have a plan B.

If something happens to me or someone else and plans have to be changed at very short notice, I then know what I can do.

As long it is always something that I have planned in advance, I don't feel too disappointed.

I think one of the reasons people are not as punctual as they used to be is because they know that during their journey they can contact the people they're meeting by cellphone.

I hate people who are habitually late. It gives the impression that they think their time is more important than mine.

The pace of life seems quicker, and information flows so much faster. Being able to keep in contact with others is great - but it takes up time to maintain the contact.

Many people will often have several activities being undertaken almost simultaneously, and so the effect of more influences and demands can lead to people being late.

Ideally, it is best to prioritise the activities, and arrive a little early for an appointment - yet there is that niggling feeling of wasting time and not giving sufficient attention to other matters which also seem important.

No wonder so many people are reported to be suffering from stress.......

I think it's just plain rude!! I knew these 2 sisters who had a habit of showing up 30min late for everything. So what did the rest of us do? We told them to show up 30min early! Did it work? Yep.........

.......And we did!! We also told them when they questioned us as to why we told them they were behaving rudely, to us, their friends. If they showed up 1 more time late without a good reason [[i.e. car wreck, etc) we would not go out with them anymore! Never happened again. Imagine that...

There's a great episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" where his wife is always late. On the one occasion Debra makes an effort to be on time, she gets her hair trapped in her hairdryer and Raymond leaves home without her.

As long as people update me, I don't mind too much if they're late, as long as they show up.

Past a certain number of minutes without word, I'll move on to something else.

In the meantime, I take the nearest seat, peacefully waiting, letting my blood pressure level drop, and feeling quite saintly and superior....

Moe, 40 years ago, I lived in Wimbledon, but never became aware of being in close proximity to the increased number of people, crowding into the tournament for that particular two weeks each summer.

But things are different now, 40 years on.....

I used to go to Wimbledon by underground on the first Tuesday or Thursday of the tournament during the 70s and 80s, and never had any problems with transport.
