Cool Pick your favorite hits from 1980

    Multiple choice!!!
OK, I thought i'd start a poll. Pick all your favorite R&B hits from the year 1980. The songs were chosen at random, but are all my favorites.

Shouldn't there be a box for "None of The Above"

My favourites on that list are THE ISLEY BROTHERS and CONFUNKTION.

    Managed to vote for both!!

And the title of the Confunktion tune on that list is incorrect .. the correct title is "Got To Be Enough" ..

    Here it is ..

CONFUNKTION : "Got To Be Enough"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ey2Hv5WYouE

    And ..

THE ISLEY BROTHERS : "Don't Say Goodnight" ..

    More Bounce To The Ounce-Zapp
    Mug Push/F-Encounter-Bootsy
    Let's Play House-Parliament
    Burn Rubber-Gap Band
    Wolf Tickets/Help From My Friends-Parlet
    Music Trance-Ben E. King

I can't imagine a list for favorite hits of 1980 and the Whispers "The Beat Goes On" not be on it. Ok, I'll vote from the choices we have.

Oh of course "More Bounce to The Ounce"! That WAS the sound of 1980. Add Jermaine Jackson's " Let's Get Serious" and we have the start of a serious listing ! LOL!

I believe "Burn Rubber" by Gap Band is from 1981.

    Well lads:

I chose the songs at random. I was kind of surprised that the forum software only lets you include ten choices. Most others let you go for 25.

Burn Rubber charted at the turn of the year. It charted in both 1980 and 1981.

The poll is supposed to be fun, not scientific.

The songs in the list represent the year 1980 in the U.S. more than you realize. It is not intended to be just about funk music, either.

I offered the poll as something fun and different from the usual threads around here. If you guys want a poll with different songs, you can always do one yourself.

Interesting bit about The Isley Brothers' "Don't Say Goodnight". Chris Jasper, who pretty much produced their albums, said that Ronald did the vocal in one take. He did it so well that he didn't even bother to mix the song. Everything was perfect as-is! What you hear on the released recording is the raw console mix.
