Hearing and loving Darlene Love's gritty original take on "Chapel of Love" here makes me wonder if I would have even liked the Dixie Cups' overly sweet and syrupy twee version the way I did if I hadn't heard it first.

Good question, 144man. If I had heard Darlene's version of "Chapel Of Love" first, I think I would have still liked -- and bought -- The Dixie Cups' version. I loved that Red Bird label. Most of those records by The Dixie Cups, The Shangri-Las, The Jelly Beans, The Butterflys, and Roddie Joy were very Wall Of Sound-ish. I'm pretty sure that Red Bird's label was yellow and red for a reason!
