Legendary Singer Mary Wilson Makes Café Carlyle Debut
Original Supreme to Showcase Intimate Show at the Café Carlyle New York from November 20 – November 24th!

That is nice. This is an intimate cabaret type place which would be perfect for Mary. It attracts some very good acts. Hopefully, Mary will leave her Supremes' catalogue out of the show, and concentrate on ballads and jazz. Although, it would be nice if she did a '70's Supreme ballad like YOU ARE THE HEART OF ME or a slowed down soulful version of My World Is Empty.

There are still a few of these intimate places in NYC. Another nice place is 54 Below.

The Carlyle kitchen will be closed for renovation this month. Hopefully, it will be done before November.

American Way, recently included Café Carlyle within their 2017 Platinum List as one of the Top 3 Music Venues in the World.

Café Carlyle is indeed a prestigious venue, and Mary will be following in the footsteps of greats like Bobby Short there.

As far as I’m concerned, her Up Close club act is the best showcase for her talents. She usually includes only “My World Is Empty Without You” from the Supremes’ songbook in this act. The balance of the set comprises standards to which she relates personally, and are better suited to her voice and style. Those who critique her for having a weak stage presence need to see her club act. She interacts with the audience quite well. She nearly always does a meet/greet afterward and I’ve never known her to leave until every fan and friend has been greeted, and I’ve not known anyone to leave disappointed.

From what I saw of the SF DVD, Mary was slayin'. I agree, she should record one of the shows and release it.

A good venue for her, indeed. A tiny place so she shouldn't have to worry about singing to hundreds of empty seats. As well Cafe Carlyle is usually heavily papered with out-of-town expense account types who are happy to attend a comped show regardless of who is performing. And her fans get to see her in a nice, comfortable atmosphere.

I think this is wonderful. Mary Wilson has great stage presence whether she is doing her Supremes show with her energy or doing her Up Close where she is intimate, tender and compelling. It is nice to see she is getting booked in a variety of places. I am sure she will be great and whoever sees her will have a wonderful time.
