    What it is-the temptations

A nice funk groove from the temptin ones, and they get down nice and funky on the vocals-from the lp-solid rock.

I'm not much a post-Eddie Temptations fan, but this cut is a jam. They tore this up, from the vocals to the track.

I fully realize that this statement is heresy but ... the psych Tempts are my favorite Tempts cuts.

Ha! Well sorry to disappoint buddy, but for me the Smokey years are everything, with the years up until Eddie leaves not too far behind. Eddie K is one of my absolute favorite singers ever. With him out the mix, I lose interest. But the post Eddie groupings are cool, don't get me wrong. It's just that I can probably list 20-30 male groups in the 70s that I dig more than the Tempts in the 70s. There is no other male group in the 60s that I dig more than the Tempts, though a couple come close. It is what it is.

Fair enough RanRan. I have to say I am partial to some 70s Tempts.

What are the other groups that come close to the 60s Tempts then...?

Wow. I feel the same way. I loved the 60s Temptations in fact them and the Four Tops are my absolute 2 favorite male groups of the 60s. I too lost interest when Eddie left. There were so many great male groups that I preferred more in the 70s. Like the Delfonics, Stylistics and the Dramatics just to name a few.

In no particular order: the 4 Tops, the Drifters, the Rascals and the Dells.

You named three of my absolute favs from the 70s. It's possible I wasn't exaggerating that 20-30 male groups of the 70s I prefer to the 70s Tempts, but just to add a few more of mine: the Moments, the Intruders, Black Ivory, Lost Generation, the J5, the Miracles, the 4 Tops, the Natural 4, the Originals, Chi Lites, the Escorts, Soul Generation, Ace Spectrum, the Spinners, Blue Magic, Brighter Side of Darkness, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. I really could go on. The competition among male vocal groups in the 70s was stiff and IMO the Tempts weren't anything special. I might say the competition in the 60s was stiff also, but the Tempts were special as Eddie, Paul, David, Otis and Melvin, and later Dennis. IMO they easily set themselves apart from their 60s competition.

Yes so many great male groups. Loved all of the ones you mentioned especially The Intruders and Blue Magic. The 70s really had some amazing male groups.
