Mary Wilson in Detroit to support charities

Mary Wilson was in Detroit this week to support two charities that she holds close to her heart, CHILDREN INCORPORATED [[www.childrenincorporated.org) and FIGURE SKATING IN DETROIT. Ms. Wilson really does have a heart for helping people. On Tuesday morning, she visited a Detroit school where she met the little girl she sponsors through Children Incorporated [[pictured), and the exchange between the two was beautiful. I was there, and I witnessed first-hand how great she is with children. Later that day, at the Figure Skating event, she performed, and she had the crowd singing and dancing along. She called a whole group of young girls who have benefited from the skating program up on stage to serve as her make-shift Supremes, and it was a lot of fun. Ms. Wilson made the trip to Detroit at her own expense so that she could support these two charities that help underprivileged children. She did not have to do so, but she chose to take part and to be involved because she believes in the work of these organizations. It was pretty incredible.

Mary Wilson has always been strong for Detroit and Detroit is strong for Mary Wilson!

Here's a testimonial of a young lady Mary inspired as far away as Botswana in Africa:

    That was sweet.

Not the first time I've heard her do this in Detroit.

That little girl will remember Mary's kindness 70 years from now.

It was an honor for me to be her escort to visit the school in Detroit and later to be her guest at a charity event where I sat at a table with Ms. Wilson and Michelle Ballard, one of Flo's daughters. Ms. Wilson has gotten a bad rap at times, but she is a very warm, caring, and down-to-earth person. She has a big heart for helping children, and her passion is to make it possible for young girls to achieve the goals.

I remember in the 80s when Mary would go to all those hospitals to visit and hug dying AIDS patients. She worked hard raising funding for research and care facilities back in those days. Sure there were others that worked very hard, but this is about Mary Wilson so I thought I'd just add that here.
