I had the Jackson 5 - come and get it compilation playing in the background and "after you leave girl" came on and it grabbed my attention.. merely cos it sounded almost like "You're gone" by The Delfonics.
Upon playing them back to back they are indeed very similar in melody and even parts of the lyrics are identical word for word.
What I don't understand is "after you leave" I credited to Bobby Taylor as songwriter and "You're gone" is credited to Thom Bell/William Hart.
With the Delfonics track being released 1968, I can only assume theirs was first?
Can anyone shed any light here please?
