Yes,i love it,Thelma Houston is the first female singer,at Motown,to win a Grammy.
Why she does not have a comprehensive Motown anthology/box set is beyond me!
Thelma was the first Motown artist I saw live, being, as she was, support on a UK tour with the Four Tops. Can't exactly remember her set list though I'd love to know it. "No One's Gonna Be A Fool Forever" was her latest record back then. It's still one of my very favourite Motown records.
This is one of my favorite early recordings by Thelma:
Lo and behold. I was in my local K-Mart this afternoon and on their speaker system they played Don't Leave Me This Way. I was spellbound. This is a dynamic performance.
Thelma Houston singing Motown memories - sounds great and she looks gorgeous.
"Please Mr Postman"
"Heat Wave"
"Dancing In The Street"
"Love Is Here and Now You're Gone" [[nice version)
"I Heard It Through The Grapevine" [[Gladys style)
"Nowhere To Run"
"Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing"
"This Is Your Life" [[fab from "Sunshower")
"Smiling Faces Sometimes"
"I Want To Go Back There Again" [[wonderful)
"Do You Know Where You're Going To"
"I Wish" [[I'd been there to see this show)
"Don't Leave Me This Way"
What a great show by such a great talent. Come to New York Thelma!!
Amazing! Thelma's voice sounds taylor-made for any and all of the songs in this video. She could have had a hit single with any of them had she arrived at Motown just a few years earlier.
Wish she would record a new album, that voice is still great!
She is an amazing lady. What I wouldn't give to hear her sing live "No One's Gonna Be A Fool Forever" once again.
Thelma's still got it! One of the most talented singers ever on Motown.
