Cast of Glee beats King of Rock and Roll

Glee has broken a 50-year-old UK chart record set by Elvis Presley. For five decades, the King of Rock and Roll held the record for landing 20 top 40 hits in the shortest space of time. Now that their cover of Britney Spears's Toxic has entered the singles chart at number 40, the honour belongs to the cast of Glee.

The BBC reports that it took the Glee cast just 57 weeks, compared with Presley's 88 weeks, to land 20 hits in the top 40.

'This is a quite amazing achievement by the Glee cast to be in the same company as the likes of Elvis Presley, in fact beating his 50-year-old record,' said Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company.

It's not the first record the smash-hit musical TV show has broken. In October 2010, the cast beat The Beatles' record for the most appearances in the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart by a non-solo act.

This month, Glee won best TV musical or comedy as well as two supporting actor prizes at the Golden Globes.
