Saw The O'Jays in concert last night

    Hello,

I saw The O'Jays last night at the Niagara Fallsview Casino and even though Walter was ill and could not attend, it was still WONDERFUL! I feel a bit old saying this but the last time I saw them, I met them and The Temptations with some of my students aka "my kids" and those kids are now 40+ - I think it was 1989. The audience was older but everyone seemed to have fun.

Eddie is a wee bit slower [[but not much) and for a man who is 75, he can still move and sing like he did way back when. The other man Eric who took Walter's leads was absolutely incredible - I was afraid he would sound off but to be honest, he sounded just like Walter. All the hits and all the fun - it was a great evening and I had great memories.

What made the evening most fun was that Eddie has not lost his sense of humour. He would ask people to stand up and they did not so it came time for him to bring up front a stool to sit on and he said, "Sh*t, since you are not going to stand up then I am going to sit my old as* down". The other fun part was sitting behind a man who apologized to me before the show started as he said he was so excited to see The O'Jays and he danced and sang so much that his embarrassed wife left part way through the show. When the show ended, he turned to me and I said, "Say nothing Brother as I got to watch what seems is two concerts and watching you have fun made my day". We hugged and that was my evening and what an incredible one it was for me.

I have had some "issues" with being in crowds so this was my first concert in a long time [[last one was Gladys Knight at the same venue) and I felt nervous going in. I left feeling GREAT!

I am going to try and do the same on July 22 when I will be going to another concert.

Ahhh, that sounds really great, satipe. That guy... his own wife left halfway through out of embarrassment... Lol... I'm glad you had a great time too. Thanks for sharing.

Satipe, I saw Gladys Knight with the O'Jays in Sept. 2015, Eddie was sick with a cold but still put on a great show! Thank you for you review.

Thanks. So who are in the O'Jays now? Was Eric a replacement or the regular third guy? Was their another replacement for Walter or just the two of them?

Had Walter got the flu or something? Hope it wasn't anything more serious. Pleased Eric got a chance out front though

    To Luke first...

Eric has been a member since 1995 and it was only him and Eddie. They supplement the background vocals with two female vocalists and the male keyboard players.

    To Soulwally now...

I have always liked your moniker. According to Eddie, Walter had surgery [[from what I have read, he has been off for a while - since at least early June) and should return by the end of this month. Eric was extremely good and to me, he sounded like Walter on the low, mid and high notes. Very good performance.

In other words then, Eric had Walter's wide vocal range pretty well covered!!

The O'Jays had a string of 'concept' LPs that were extraordinary. In a perfect world I'd like to see a full LP concert of 'Ship Ahoy'. Glad they are still inspiring audiences.
