Motown Stars and Jet Magazine Covers

I was perusing the covers of Jet magazine's online archives and decided to list the covers that featured Motown stars. If I missed any please feel free to add them to this post. This list arbitrarily covers the dates 9-3-59 to 2-1-73. Time permitting, I will cover the remaining dates.

Here is the link for the covers: http://www.coverbrowser.com/covers/jet/6

There is a list of date ranges on the top of the Jet page. Once you are on the Jet page, just click the range found below [[3rd column) and scroll to the date of the issue also found below [[1st column). If you click on the cover, you can read the accompanying story.

Lockhartgary, very nice start. From someone who's family had been a Jet subscriber for 35 plus years, there are LOTS of Motown artists covers. I will add some later too.

Just wondering IS IT POSSIBLE for this material to be printed out via a computer printer? Unable how figure out how to do this. I would love to get the Florence Ballard article printed out.

I also found out something about this page from the 2/20/75 issue on Florence Ballard. When you call this page up, for this or any other issue, when you see an artist in the search block, i. e. Eddie Kendricks, you can delete EK and type in another artists name. Then check search all issues and hit GO. This will bring up all issues that the particular artist had stories in. Interesting.

Does anyone know which specific issue covers the official announcement of Motown's departure from Detroit to Los Angeles? Certainly there must have been an major announcement about it via JET.

Thanks for the search info. Don't know why I didn't think to explore that option.

If you are on a Windows PC, you can use Window's Snipping Tool to save the pages to jpeg files and then print them out.

I am sure Jet covered it too. We use to refer to it as "The Bible in the Black Community" LOL! First you need to find an approximate date of the move and then search Jet or try "Motown Moves" as keywords.
