Most of them look pretty good. But when was Queen Latifah a star of Motown?

I believe she recorded for the label in the 1990s... yes, two albums entitled Black Reign [[1993) and Order In The Court [[1998). I just checked and she did have a hit with her song "UNITY" from her first Motown album... a #23 on the Hot 100!

    [[A star though? Meh )

The Queen was a star before she came to Motown. And the Black Reign album was pretty big at the time.

The Temptations side-by-side was pointless, IMO. Why not just show Otis and Ron? Also, I wasn't aware that Michael McDonald actually recorded for Motown. And TomatoTom, Latifah is indeed a star; don't make me lash you with a wet noodle! All in all, a great slideshow.

Thanks for that. You know, I'd kind of even forgotten she started out as a singer as she has made such a big impression in films and television. Then recently she was acclaimed in a show based on the life of Bessie Smith. I'd like to hear some of those recordings. I bet she sings the hell out of Blues.

Kenneth, by all means, grab a copy of the DVD or soundtrack of Bessie. Latifah really delivers, both as actress and singer. She was born to play The Empress of the Blues; she did Bessie proud.

I will. Latifah certain seems to have the talent and presence to embody and portray the "swagger" that you hear in Bessie's vocals.
