Jerry you have great selections in this thread. Brings back memories when music was good.

  3. #1453
When music became dark and foreboding in 1990:

  4. #1454
Something a little lighter and definitely more fun......

  5. #1455
Now for some just plain stupid fun from 1987!

  6. #1456
A favorite from Prince from around Christmas 1982:

  7. #1457
One of the best songs of 1986! BERNARD WRIGHT - WHO DO YOU LOVE

  8. #1458
Hey marv, how bout the great soul classic from-baby washington..it'll never be over for me!!

hmmm.....I don't know. Let's see what we can do. hehehehehehehe!

  10. #1460
Then there's my favorite from Baby Washington.......

  11. #1461
    From the Spring of 1978.......

  12. #1462
How this one by the Supremeskis? From the Spring of 1970:

  13. #1463
Mr. Roy Ayers and "Freaky Deaky"!

  14. #1464
One of my favorite Whispers tunes (and that's saying a lot):

  15. #1465
Frankie Beverly is one of my heroes, right up there with George Clinton and Larry Blackmon. This was a bonus track on my favorite live album ever:

  16. #1466
I don't remember anyone playing this song but it was a great example of how much emotion Gerald Alston could put into a song. Gerald Alston and Bobby Smith are two of my favorite voices that should get much more love than they seem to receive.

  17. #1467
Hey marv, how bout the seldom heard soul classic[gotta give her love-the volumes-1964]?

  18. #1468
    Roy Head y'all......!

  19. #1469
    Well......................

  20. #1470
Hey JAI this one? Harry Balk produced this one in Detroit!

  21. #1471
I probably love '70s soul as much as '60s soul. Sooo much good music that, for some reason, seems to be less appreciated. Yah, I said it before but here's something from that era.

  22. #1472
And this song is one of the best performances ever, in my opinion. But I have hardly heard it since the '70s.

  23. #1473
    And of course, this classic:

  24. #1474
    Also from the Main Ingredient:

  25. #1475
One of my cousins sings on this cut. My dad doesn't like it when I tell him it is racist.

  26. #1476
This one is very underrated but one of my favorites of the '50s.

So this must be what Shorty Long is referencing in "Function at the Junction."

  28. #1478
And this also from the Clovers:

  29. #1479
    Classic:

  30. #1480

  31. #1481
This one is still sad to me.

  32. #1482
And this one is sadder. Still gets to me:

  33. #1483
This is reputedly about a dog that ran away but it's also beautiful and a classic:

  34. #1484
And the '80s had its share of beautiful sad songs. This one was said to have been recorded off the first take, which makes it even more remarkable. Marv, I'm sorry if I had it on here before. The thread is at 30 pages (and counting) and I didn't go back.

  35. #1485
This doesn't qualify as a "classic" but it's one of my favorite songs to sing and dance to when I'm the only one in the room. This band had so much potential but even more heartache.

  36. #1486
I think this was an English band. I played this cassette so much in the '80s, it now has pops and clicks like an old record.

  37. #1487
Another from View From The Hill.

  38. #1488
Another great 80s/90s English band. Carl McIntosh split off from his two former mates on this Loose Ends album that was, in my opinion, their best. Need to check and see what happened to him after this.

  39. #1489
This song gives me chills. Such an atmospheric album.

  40. #1490
Another English band that kind of defies classification is Level 42. Verdine White produce this album and this song has a lot of fans although it wasn't released as a single.

  41. #1491
    Nice ones Jerry!

  42. #1492
    One of my all-time favorites:

  43. #1493
She knocked me out with this one......

  44. #1494
Senior year in high school and this was one of our JAMS!

  45. #1495
Marv, that was a heck of a debut album. In addition to Ffun, it had Shake And Dance With Me and this underrated gem:

  46. #1496
Con Funk Shun also had one of my favorite instrumental funk songs. I don't know if anybody appreciates this as much as I do but I play it often and turn it up in my car.

  47. #1497
And speaking of instrumental jams, the bass and drums on this cut by Pleasure still blow me away. Not for the faint of heart.

  48. #1498
And one more from the Clarke Duke Project. John Robinson's banging these drums like he wants to rip a hole in the skins.

  49. #1499

Jerry, Shake and Dance came out later that Spring of 1978 on a different album called "Loveshine".

  50. #1500
From that wild summer of 1995! LOL!
