What are your 10 favourite Marvin Gaye tracks?

    Hey guys,

Classic Motown are running a competition to see who can come up with the best Marvin Gaye: Essentials playlist. You can only choose 10 tracks though, which is pretty tough!

    http://classic.motown.com/story/crea...ials-playlist/

What would your 10 tracks be? Interested to hear people's thoughts...

Impossible. No 10-track compilation would ever be comprehensive enough to title the "essential" Marvin Gaye. I am most enamored of his 70s output.

    1. What's Going On
    2. I Want You
    3. Let's Get It On
    4. Got To Give It Up
    5. Trouble Man
    6. Inner City Blues [[Make Me Wanna Holler)
    7. Distant Lover
    8. After The Dance
    9. A Funky Space Reincarnation
    10. If I Should Die Tonight

And I'm already second-guessing all of my choices.

Truly an impossible task. I have currently got my "list" down to 18 , and i cannot for the life of me bear to trim many more from the list, and everytime i think about this subject i remember another tune i had forgotten about. Sorry but this task is quite impossible.

I'm not much of a fan of Marvin Gaye, so this list might look a little weird. If we take out the duets, I would add, I'll Be Doggone, Pride and Joy, The Masquerade is Over, Mama Loochie [[as Moonglows' lead), [[You're a) Wonderful One, and the last one would probably be some "B" side I'm forgetting. I like his mellow, but early stuff better than his raucus songs. I rarely like ANY music of any kind after the end of the '60s, or maybe a few cuts from 1970 and 1971. I don't like anything I've heard from him after 1967. But then, that could be said by me of just about any singing artist.

I don't Spotify, my music purely is derived from CD and vinyl, but here goes:

Note: While the seventies Marvin had several grooves I can groove on [[Come Get To This, I Want You, After The Dance, You Sure Love To Ball), for the most part, my Marvin is the Sixties Marvin, Prince of Motown.

"Tear It On Down" - from In The Groove
"There Goes My Baby" from In The Groove
"Forever" - from How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You
"Little Darling [[I Need You)" - from Moods of Marvin Gaye
"Your Unchanging Love" - from Moods of Marvin Gaye
"Straighten Up And Fly Right" from A Tribute To The Great Nat King Cole
"I Want You 'Round" from Take Two
"Too Busy Thinking About My Baby" from M.P.G.
"Good Lovin' Ain't Easy To Come By" from Easy
"I Can't Help But Love You" from You're All I Need
