A Happy 73rd Birthday to Merald "Bubba" Knight !
Oh , I am so happy that someone other than me knows that today is Bubba's birthday. I've said this often, but every time I watched the Supremes, my eyes always focused on Mary and every time I watched Gladys Knight and the Pips, my eyes always focused on Bubba. Mary and Bubba seemed to fully enjoy what they were doing, had infectious smiles and a lot of energy. Happy Birthday Bubba and I am glad to always see you with Gladys when she performs.
Belated Happy Birthday, Bubba! Thanks for all the great harmonies and super-impressive choreography. You rocked!
Merold "Bubba" Knight was the soulful leader of the Pips, and their choreographer. In their hey-day their dynamic moves and rich harmonies rivaled the Temps - how they managed to sing while jiving like that is beyond me. But they sure did, and were electrifying to watch, when I saw them in 1973 - on a burgeoning high with "If I Were Your Woman" and "Help Me Make It Through The Night" [[though for that number, Gladys sat on a high stool, and the Pips went off-stage to get their breath back!). But Bubba's personality was always shining through, and he always gave 110%. Congratulations on a 73rd birthday, and thank you for your rich musical career.
This is a very long , but very informative interview with Bubba about the history of Gladys Knight and the Pips. I watched the entire interview and learned some new info about the group and Motown.
