Think of this thread as 'A Quiet Room', 144man.

Maybe we should make some refreshments available....

  17. #2517
A nice cup of tea and a biscuit would be most appreciated, and I wouldn't even have to give blood.

  18. #2518
I'll have a selection of teas, together with some custard cream and bourbon biscuits, made available.

The only blood given around here is shed when preparing the daily Birthday list.

  19. #2519
I know it's a trying thing to do, westgrand, but there are those of us whom are deeply grateful for the time you put into that list each & every day. No comment on the commercial breaks. But I will share some tea & biscuits with you & 144man😁

Oh, Roger, you're going to see Gladys!? How wonderful! Where are you seeing her?

  26. #2526
In my home town (since 1979), at the BIC (Bournemouth International Centre). 15-20 mins walk from home......

  27. #2527
Nice. Have a great time 👍

  28. #2528
    That sounds great, westgrand!👍🏻

  29. #2529
15-20 walk! Awesome. That will make the concert even more enjoyable.👍

  30. #2530
It takes me the same time to reach The Pavilion, an older theatre (the Pavilion and the BIC are on either side of our Pier Approach road, and both overlook the Bay - there's also an open-air stage)...where I had a hug and kiss with Martha......and I saw Diana at the Winter Gardens in 1976 (later demolished to make way for the BIC)...the theatre stewards were excitedly telling us all as we entered "the opening is just fabulous....!!"

As I'm typing this, I'm feeling I have been very lucky.....

Yeah, I heard she brought down the house down!

P.S. Hope you get a kiss and hug from Gladys too!

  32. #2532
LOL! Actually, it was the show with the mime artists, and the clips from 'Mahogany', shown on Diana's gown, as she stretched out her arms....but then, you'd already guessed that, hadn't you...

The queue to meet and greet Martha, Lois and Delphine after their last show here, extended from the bar at the rear of the Pavilion, right back through the hallway which circles the theatre, out into the entrance foyer.....so I'd be killed in the rush to get near Gladys at the BIC!

Still, I don't go to live performances simply to hear these grand ladies sing ( I can do that by listening to their recordings), but just to be WITH them....

It was the "An Evening With Diana Ross" Show. I saw it at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. It was Ah-some!

  34. #2534
    I bet.....!

  35. #2535
Reminds me of the[howard theatre ]days when i lived about ten minutes from all those good shows and i didn't miss many.

  36. #2536
Arr&bee, are you someone who would keep souvenirs from those shows - tickets etc....or maybe all long gone now?

I expect it has already been done, but maybe you should start a 'Favourite Shows I Have Seen' thread, and start it off with your own memories of those Howard Theatre shows...?

  37. #2537
Unfortunately west,i only have very fond memories of those golden days and great, great shows,i should've took some pics but being a teen it didn't occur to me back then,i think that there is a post somewhere about shows attended.

  38. #2538
That's too bad, because I'm sure you've attended quite a few more than I have R&B.

  39. #2539
Hi moe,i first went there in[1962]to see the shirelles and roy hamilton, and last went in[1969]to see gladys knight & the pips along with the ambassadors,i didn't attend every show that came thru but i saw many.

  40. #2540

R&B, I attended very few because of having no $$ & heavy class load (while in school). However, I did get to see The Temps, Tops.
I also saw the Doobie Bros & a very young Billy Joel because my girlfriend paid for the tickets (and she wanted me to go with her).
