    September 13th:

    Quote for the Day:

"Mary is a tremendous entertainer, and to see the way she has grown as an entertainer is just marvellous.

But she has a very short memory.

Scherrie and I helped her to continue, and now she wants to either deny or erase that.

I really think that's silly and rather short-sighted. It's also sad.

I've enjoyed most of my association with The Supremes.

The only real downside is the lack of creative freedom. Everything else was just a party, and for free!

By the time I got into the group, we know things weren't like they had always been. So what? It was a tremendous experience.

And guess what? I'm still here. I can still sing. I'm still in good shape, you know what I mean.

    And I'm happy."

    September 15th:

    Quote for the Day:

"Motown came forth with a recording contract for me, a management contract, and a songwriter's contract - which shocked me.

Then I was told "Sylvia, we'll get to you as a singer. But in the meantime we've got all these artists and they have no material. You're going to have to write."

I said "OK". Because I was kinda shy anyway. And so that's what I started doing.

I got into it, and the hits started coming."

    Quote for the Day:

"I haven't had the chance to see it, but the fact that they saw fit to put up that statue is beyond my wildest dreams.

Any time that people think enough of you to put up something that is everlasting is only going to make you feel good.

I think that other than Elvis, I am Memphis's favourite son - I'm pretty close to number two.

The thing about Elvis is that he is a lot more popular in death that he was when he was alive - but I would rather that they come while I'm here."

    Quote for the Day:

"When you sing opera, you are very far from the people, you are onstage, and between you and the people, there is the orchestra.

    Quote for the Day:

"When I came to England, I was a very shy, introverted young woman.

For the first time in my life, I was free."

Westgrand, I just saw Josephine Hutchinson on an old episode of Perry Mason.

  48. #5148
Moe, I just checked her out again...and it seems Josephine Hutchinson actually appeared four times on 'Perry Mason', between 1958-1962.

So I guess the episode you saw was that old? In black and white?

  49. #5149
Yes.........in case you didn't know: the Perry Mason series (with Raymond Burr from 1957-1966) was all shot in black & white EXCEPT for 1 episode: The Case of the Twice Told Twist
filmed between September-October 1965. Apparently Bill Paley (then head of CBS) wanted to see what Perry Mason looked like in color. Show got canceled anyway & Burr went on to Ironside. I can think of NO OTHER person who could play Perry Mason other than Raymond Burr. But, you are right about Josephine Hutchinson. It's just that I saw her in1 of her roles the day before you mentioned her.

On the subject of colour, Moe, don't forget the thirty 'Perry Mason' television films, 1985-1995 - which even continued for a short while after Raymond Burr passed away.

I always felt he and Barbara Hale were a magic couple on the screen.....
