"Nightflight" Tue Feb 24, 9P-12M ET: Andantes Tribute with Louvain and Andy!

Hello Folks! Very sad for the loss of Motown's and our beloved Marlene Barrow-Tate. The breadth of Marlene's, Jackie Hicks and Louvain Demps recordings with Motown....and more...is astounding and involves most all of the Motown artists. Her loss is profound. SO tonight I am doing a tribute to the Andantes. Joining me for a little while will be Louvain and our friend Andy Skurow, to talk some about Marlene and the career of the Andantes. DO join us tonight....on "Nightflight" on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans and streaming live worldwide in digital stereo at www.womr.org Thanks so much....and see you on the radio! John

Definitely tuning in tonight. So many wonderful tracks that highlight the ladies like "My Guy," Barbara McNair's "Fancy Passes" and Marlene singing the intro to PJ's "T.L.C."

MidnightJohnny, how fitting that you've chosen to dedicate tonight's show in memory of Marlene Barrow-Tate and in honor of The Andantes. Along with Kim Weston's "Just Loving You", my earliest recollection of The Andantes was their super-impressive back-up vocals on Eddie Holland's "Just Ain't Enough Love" and his follow-up single, "Candy To Me." It didn't take long for me to recognize The Andantes magical blend on countless other Motown singles and album tracks. When I found out in the 1980's that their vocals were also included on Motown girl-group recordings [[Supremes, Vandellas, Marvelettes, Velvelettes), The Andantes became my permanent all-time favorite girl group. The rest is history.

John, may I request that you play Eddie Holland's "Just Ain't Enough Love" and "Candy To Me" on tonight's show? Those two 1964 recordings are classic examplss of The Andantes at their finest. Thanks.

[[I'll do my best to catch your show, although it conflicts with my personal schedule. Either way, have a great show! All my best and a great big thanks to Louvain and Jackie for 50+ years of musical joy.) - Gary

    Evening John,

Its a shame you have to talk with Louvain and Andy under such sad circumstances but appreciate everyone coming together and honoring the important body Marlene and The Andantes has given us.

$2.50 for hand claps in 1963 is the equivalent of $19.00 in 2015.....

Did anyone else think that one of the voices on the stripped version of "Just Look What You've Done" had a sound reminiscent of Duke Fakir?

Since Andy is on the phone, might you ask if he knows which of the Original's voice/vocal tone was similar to Duke's?

I think its the Spinners on "Here Comes The Judge" since its Henry Fambrough who is the voice of the judge.

I never thought anyone could make me like "The Composer," but that version was really nice. Just made more sense musically and for whatever reason Diane didn't sound so shrill on it. Now, if you want a real challenge try and remix "No Matter What Sign You Are" and see if you can make me like that one!
