What are some classic soul songs that have weird lyrics?

    Frankie Smith's "Double Dutch Bus"

" Gonna walk to work, fifteen blocks, already got hole in my socks, go ahead and laugh, that's OK, cause' what I really want to say, I got bad feet, my corns hurt, to top it off, I'm late for work!"

But really, no Brenton Wood's "Oogum Boogum" = list is non grata.

    As like any list now,
    it is too modern

"Someone left the cake out in the rain"

has to be on this list but they probably never hear the song.

    also

"Are you a boy or are you a girl?"

The first quote obviously is from the song Mac Authur Park but I don't recognise the second
which I guess does without me knowing the context of the song , sound weird. Where's it
    from?
Anyway, the cake lyric I've been seeing people puzzle over for years now and I just laugh.
Apparently there are millions of people who never heard of people putting a just made
cake outside on a windowsill or table to cool off. My granny and aunts down south did that
all the time. Though I've never seen it happen I'm sure at some point somebody's somebody
did the same one day, something unexpected happened, they got distracted and it started to rain...
anywho, lyrics that I don't understand in a song are:
    Sharach...Meshach....Abenego...
Aren't those the names of the biblical three wise men? ...
Sly Stone sung them in his song Loose Booty...

"Loose Booty"! Ahhhh, I haven't heard that song in many years. I did not understand [[and probably didn't care at the time) why they were chanting the names of the 3 Hebrew childern in that song.

Here they are, Sly & the Family Stone on the Mike Douglas Show singing "Loose Booty" from July 18, 1974:

Marc Bolan of T-Rex wrote some very peculiar lyrics.

    'Children Of The Revolution'

    Well you can terraplane
    In the fallin' rain
    I drive a Rolls Royce
Cause it's good for my voice
But you won't fool the children of the revolution...

    'Teenage Dream'

    silver surfer
    and the ragged kid
    are all sad and rusted
ah, they don't have a gift
believe me Pope Paul,my toes are clean
what ever happened to the teenage dream?

    'New York City'

Did you ever see a woman
Coming out of New York City
With a frog in her hand

Even the writer of Helen Reddy's "Angie Baby" can't decide whether the events related really happen or whether they're just in Angie's mind. What could be weirder than being sucked into a radio?
