Some of Bill Withers' best songs were inspired by his relationship with Denise Nicholas. A fine woman can drive a man crazy. Denise inspired and drove Bill over a wall. The lyrics are all about a paranoid, suspicious and jealous lover who swears his woman is sending vibes to someone other than him. Gladys' version was cool. She could play the victim or the angry woman better than anyone at Motown.
