I grew up in Southwestern Michigan though I left there 20 plus years ago. It's a shock to learn there are casinos in towns like New Buffalo and Dowagiac. I'm against the proliferation of casinos in the US as it's a sign of economic distress for a particular region, not to mention the most negative social impact of gambling. At one time these small towns in SW Michigan had economies strong enough to provide good jobs for people, but no more, hence the presence of casinos. This summer I plan on a trip back to Michigan and will get to see conditions first hand.

"We are excited to announce the "IN THE NAME OF LOVE TOUR" 2014" says her official Facebook which often goes dormant for months and months at a time. So what do we think? Are we going to get a new set list with a new tour name like we did in 2010? New merchandise? New [[old) photos? New dresses? New Stage? Video Screen? Overture? OR -- Is it like the "Now Tour" - a randomly chosen name for the same tour you saw last year with less songs and less musicians [[RIP String Section)

Well if nothing else, hopefully fo this tour Miss Diane Ross will go back to mistreating and marginalizing her backpart singers like in the good old days.

I grew up in SW Michigan and left in 1990, but still go back once or twice a year to see family [[Kalamazoo), and there are SEVERAL new casinos on that side of the state and they all appear to be doing quite well.

In The Name Of Love Tour makes sense, as "Stop! In The Name Of Love" is featured prominently in MOTOWN: THE MUSICAL...as to marginalizing backup singers, by virtue of being back up singers, they are already marginalized by the very nature of the gig..in this case, a bone or two was thrown to the others, which is more than any Vandellas or Marvelettes ever got!..LOL..get a copy of "20 Feet From Stardom"...

The casinos may be doing well...any well run casino should do well given the odds are always in the house's favor. But they generally don't lead to much economic growth. Most of the jobs are low wage, service jobs and the casinos depend on drawing people willing to throw their money away at the tables and slots when the money could be better used outside of the casino. As you can tell, I'm not a big fan of casinos...I find them to be sad places with far too many downtrodden people with glassy addicted expressions on their faces as they gamble away their lives.

As soon as Diana Ross went solo, the background got turned up for the next couple years, through to LSTB when it disappeared again.

Perhaps the sound changed by 1970 because Aretha's backup was pretty strong too for songs like I Say A Little Prayer.

I don't care one whit how loud the bgs are.......at all. Only the producer knows how loud they should be as it's his creation. Sometimes I think they are too loud or quiet for my personal taste, but that's just me. I don't think people should eat steak rare because I do. I do wish bgs were clearer as I often can't hear what they are singing - but that's not because of volume.

LOL........ exactly. If you want to be a star - BE a star! If you don't want to be marginalized - don't BE marginalized. The shit I put up with is the shit I choose to put up with so I don't expect to be soothed and "Poor Gregged" for the choices I make.

According to the listing, the show is in 2015. But I suspect it's a drag show/tribute show as Amy Winehouse is on the bill and she died a couple of years ago. Or it could be a hoax.

Like Smark said, the lineup made me think that this was a tribute show, especially with Amy dead, and Aretha not performing out of the US since 1983.

Diana Ross headlined "The Concert For The Children" at the Akoya Amphitheater, which is soon breaking ground on the great lawn at Boca West Country Club. Proceeds went to 14 charities and is expected to raise over $1 million dollars.

    Diana Ross did not disappoint.

The legendary songtress was in full diva-effect Tuesday night at "The Concert for the Children" at Boca West Country Club, running through five decades of her impressive songbook from "Where Did Our Love Go" and "You Can't Hurry Love" to "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."

She even threw in some surprises such as "The Boss," "More Today Than Yesterday" and "Ease On Down The Road" from her last feature film "The Wiz."

During "Upside Down" Ross suddenly whirled around and asked the security in front of the stage, "Is there any reason you're not allowing people to come here in front?"

PHOTOS: Ultra Music Festival 2014 fans and artists

    It was a rhetorical question.

She then invited movers and shakers - who had come from Boca, Palm Beach, Wellington and even all the way from Port St. Lucie - to rush the stage.

They did...filling in the space between the first rows and the stage in mosh pit style.

After a her now-usual encore of "I Will Survive," there was a whirlwind meet-and-greet backstage where the Motown superstar clutched a satin opera coat around her still-taut frame [[just had her 70th birthday last week, mind you) and kept her voluminous hair in constant motion thanks to a Chinese fan...which also gave her a diplomatic excuse to not shake hands or sign autographs.

Then a quick wave over her head as she took five steps to a waiting limousine and it was all Miss-Ross-Out.

Benefiting 14 charities the private event organized by the Boca West Foundation was sponsored in part by Akoya, the coming-soon luxury condominium from the property developer Siemens Group.

Never heard of the Akoya Amphitheater? Well, that's because Richard Siemens had it constructed on the grounds of Boca West Country Club just for the event.

You can still get reasonable seats in a few venues like Albany and Worcester and I think Kansas City.

I do wonder if there will be anything new ~ The Boss and More Today Than Yesterday are not new for me. I appreciate a lot of the show has to stay in ~ the hits are there forever ~ Baby Love, Stop, You Cant Hurry Love, Fools Fall in Love, Mahogany, Mountain, World Is Empty ~ but we need a few more chestnuts for the fans.

She's had enough big hits she could mix up the set list a bit each night and still appeal to the casual fans in attendance.

I really like what Streisand has done on these last few tours and changed up the setlist. She and Diana started roughly around the same time and have comparable back catalogues. Barbra seems to have a knack for incorporating recording history and even chart trivia into her stage patter. I'm sure much of it is scripted but I'd be interested in hearing Diana's take on some of her songs.

I think Stop!, Fools, Mahogany, Mountain, Upside Down, Coming Out are the musts......
I'm so psyched she did I Hear A Symphony the other night.

When did she do Symphony? Maybe that is a good sign.

Love Child is a must too.

At that charity event a few days ago - the audience went nuts. IHAS is A-List for me. I remember when it came out that, like Nothing But Heartaches, it could never top Back In My Arms Again and I resigned to hopefully loving it like I did Heartaches. I was wrong. It DID, for me, top them all [[until YCHL) but it remained in my active file for years. She didn't do Love Child - it has been in 15 years and it's great but, something's gotta give. Personally, I'd dump More Today, Stop, Where, Its My House, My World but Stop has become the iconic Supremes song so its gotta stay. It sure wasn't back in the day - interesting, eh?

It's a date! I'd love to sit next to you. Really I think comments about stars' kids are............cheap, Wal-Mart style bitchy and desperate. I much prefer dusting off running down blind children or Flo monopolizing the Tonight Show. Will you be attending soon?

I've been trying not to fan the flames here but Diana's children are extremely well put together and have kept their noses clean which can't be said for the children of some of her contemporaries.
