I think it's time we went home ourselves. I don't think arr&bee is going to show tonight.
As the buses are not locked, and I only need to press a button to start them, can I give you a lift?

If you look at some of times of his recent posts on other thread [[2:06am approx.) you will find that R&B is probably a night owl who strikes when almost everyone is on the bus, gone home, and tucked in for the night.
wgb,
There is the group The 5 Royales with "Laundrymat Blues", etc.......
Then there is The Five Royals [[Alonzo Tucker, Hank Ballard, etc...) who morphed into The Midnighters, later as Hank Ballard & The Midnighters, minus Alonzo who was then writing hits for Jackie Wilson.
I was going to put up a photo of them but something is now different on here [[try it), cannnot do it ??????????

S.S.
***
Well, S.S., arr&bee said this classic group [[which none of us can guess...) last recorded at the end of the 70s - and The Tops were surely recording in the 80s.....so, unless arr&bee is shifting the goalposts, not them....??
Bill Pinkney & The Original Drifters, Bill Pinkney And The Originals, Bill Pinkney's Original Drifters, Charlie Thomas & The Drifters, Charlie Thomas And The Drifters, Clyde McPhatter & The Drifters, Difters, Drifters, Original Drifters.
What about that lot?
The PIPS..................................?
The Staples.........?
Ok,i'll give you all til saturday,if no one gets it i'll reveal it...take a shot in the dark...the answer is very close,we discuss this group almost always.
The Moonglows / Harvey & The Moonglows
The Chantels / Arlene Smith & The Chantels
The Matadors / The Miracles [[without Smokey in the 70's).

B-i-n-g-o...hurrayyyyyyyy sis you tripped up and got it...who are they??? How many of us alllllways call this classic motown group...smokey and the miracles now have any of thier many records ever had the name[smokey and the miracles]on it?not to my knowlegde it's either[the miracles]or from the mid-sixties on[smokey robinson and the miracles]if i'm wrong show me...it's been fun.
Hmmmmmm.....
Well, speaking just for myself, I've certainly always referred to the group as 'Smokey Robinson & The Miracles' since the billing changed for "The Love I Saw In You Was Just A Mirage" single in 1967 - [[if not since the "Going To A Go-Go" album in 1965. Well,it was a v-e-r-y long time ago..!)
That's how the group name was changed on all records, billing and promotional literature and, I guess, trademarked? OK, maybe I'm just being a pedantic Brit! LOL
Some might well have thought of them, and also referred to them as Smokey & The Miracles, but only in private conversation [[?) - as perhaps they might 'Diana & The Supremes', 'Gladys & The Pips', 'Frankie and The Four Seasons', just as other examples.
When I hear a classic Motown record, I hear the drums of Benny Benjamin, Pistol Allen, Uriel Jones and all....but I wonder, with great interest, if arr&bee just might be listening to the beat of a very different drum
OK! Bring on 'Answer This 77' ...! LOL

I looked at the Miacles' discogs last night and it lists all the names they've been known by
Pasted
"Smokey" Robinson & I Miracles, Eddie Holland, Miracles, Miracles, Smokey Robinson, The, Miracles, The ®, New Miracles, The, Smokey Ribinson & The Miracles, Smokey Robinson, Smokey Robinson & Miracles, Smokey Robinson & Miracles, The, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles*, Smokey Robinson + The Miracles, Smokey Robinson And The Miracles, Smokey Robinson With The Miracles, Smokie Robinson & The Miracles
So I didn't go for them! I did the same for the Staples, Pips etc and did!

Hey wes hope you enjoyed the question[i did]now i can't speak for the uk,but over here back in the day we called em[smokey and the miracles, even the local dj's did too.
1. The Miracles with first album in 1958 [[Great output).
2. The Miracles "Going To A Go Go" album 1965 [[Best album!).
3. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles or Smokey & The Miracles, or Bill Smokey Robinson & The Miracles as the Top R & B Disc Jockey's on the radio & stage shows called them 1966. on.... N.Y./N.J./Philly/Baltimore/D.C. on the Chitlin` Circit.
4. After Smokey went solo in the 70's, back to The Miracles or The New Miracles.
What's my prize, R & B?

Your persistence paid off SS! Glad I bet on you!!!
I've never heard anyone call them Smokey and the Miracles over here but that isn't surprising really. Our radio, what we had anyway, would have called them by what was on the 45 or LP.

The O'Jays are sometimes called just the Jays, but I doubt that's it.
Hey sis,a special batch of the good stuff being made as we speak...what took you so long[hehehe].
The Young Rascals records did say that name up 'til they officially changed to the Rascals, which was on the records too. The O'Jays were often called just the Jays, but I doubt that's it.
R & B,
The only "special batch" I'm looking for these days is a batch of good bakery cookies for Jimmy, he is the cookie monster!!
