"Nightflight" Tue Jan 7, 9P-12M ET-Back to the Complete Motown Singles with 1966!

    Attachment 7897
Well, Happy New Year, Nightflight Listeners!! Here's hoping that your new year finds you healthy and not too cold from this Arctic BLAST!
And with the new year, we restart the Complete Motown Singles. We left off last year with the completion of a great year for Motown...1965. So, naturally, we are moving into another amazing year for the Sound of Young America...1966!!

And tonight's show couldn't be possible without the support of SDF's own Bobby Gardner aka rossholloway, who supplied the show with not only the tracks aired from 1966, but about 75% of all the tracks that are played on this "Nightflight" special presentation. Bobby...thanks for your help and generosity!!

So join me for all this...and more...tonight...on "Nightflight"..on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans...and we are streaming live worldwide in digital stereo at www.womr.org
    Thanks so much!!
    John

    Hey John-
In 1966, I was only 15 [[with eyes that would glow). I was to young to fall in love but I sure knew my music. And 'My Music' was MoTown and 1966 was a very good year. Looking forward to looking back with you and the gang. See y'all then!

Even Motown makes mistakes.......they also used the album version of I'm Still Waiting on TCMS 1971B [[instead of that butchered 2:59 single edit)

Your mix of NLYBS is definitive!

    Johnny darlin'

Whenever there is only 1 side of a released single featured in this series it usually means that the b-side was a repeat from another single by the same artist- in this case, "Sad Song" which had already appeared as the b-side of Tamla T 54099 "I'll Always Love You".
I never really understood why, with the wealth of unreleased tunes, Motown would repeat a b-side on any single.

I always liked "When I Had Your Love" better than the A-side.

I've never understood the relative failure of Get Ready - I loved it from day 1. It peaked at 29 with only 3 weeks in the top 40! I cannot get it.

I never understood why the Tempts' "Get Ready" didn't do better on the US pop charts. If I recall it went top 10 in the R&B charts, yes?

I see that it went #1 on the 1966 Billboard R&B charts! Only #29 on the Pop singles chart.

Well this show was definitely NOT for the birds! Thanks John. Thank you one and all. 1966, how could so much time have gone by so quickly. Perfect closing track [[and perfectly extended!), so we open with "He's All I Got" next week? See y'all next time

    Joseph...thanks! Yeah...1966 is going on almost 50 years ago....cheeeeezzzzzzzzz!!
Actually for the timing of the show I had to skip Chris Clark's "Do I Love You[[.....)"....which will definitely be played next time!
