Interesting... the titles read 'Smokey Robinson and the Miracles'... and it was 1964.
And did Mary push Diana out of the way?!!!
A slightly different opening was used when the film was repackaged [[along with THE BIG TNT SHOW) as the vhs release THAT WAS ROCK, hosted by Chuck Berry. I think Smokey was given top billing on it as well.
But that isn't so surprising. On the Motortown Revue albums, he is introduced that way. Some of the early singles gave him a "Featuring credit." And I think Motown started officially calling the group "Smokey Robinson and the Miracles" on albums a while before they extended the same billing to singles.

Thanks Reese. That explains it. But Mary still shoved Diana!!!
CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not just the Motown artists, but all the performances here are top notch.
After Beyond The Valley of the Dolls this is my all time favorite move.
If you look very closely during the finale, you'll catch Florence Ballard wallup Bobby Rogers of the Miracles in the butt with a maraca [[sp?) while he is dancing! LOL! When I first caught that, I fell out laughing LOL!!!!
At exactly 1:51:53 in the video Flo hits Bobby Rogers in the butt with her maraca as he starts to dance with Diane! hehehehehehe...
