If you can state again on which album that Stevie single was featured and get it right, motownlover and sophisticated soul will be bound to submit their full fees....
Oh John, forget five bucks, how about Twenty Million Lira and I'll throw in a dress I got my Aunt Flo to make for me in her sweatshop
Motown has upped its quality by now. Some of the tracks not played were pretty strong.
With "Old Love" on the b-side of "Punch", this was one of those 45s I played until the grooves turned gray. I'm only 11 and already so heavy with the emotions, oh the pangs of preteen angst "Old Love" brought out in me. LOL!!
Who is filing their nails???
Where are they filing them, under 'f' or 'n'?
Please remind the listeners that Sandra Mallet would forgo her being backed up by the Vandellas to joining forces with the Downbeats to become The El-gins!!!
I asked Martha about the Vells' track in a radio phone-in in the 70s, and she just said that Motown were issuing as many of the recorded tracks as possible as they had no idea of what would become hits.
"Two Lovers", classic MoTown, classic Rock and Roll. Classic period! Coupled with "Operator" it was another one of those 45s I played into the ground! Great, great songs.
Johnny,
You did well with the Vells. And yes, I've always noticed the similarity between Gloria Jean & Martha's voices. Once Gloria Jean opted out, it made for a smooth transition.
My copy is in my office!
I was still at school when "Two Lovers" came out, and it had such an impact on me that I joined the Mary Wells Fan Club, which immediately morphed into the Tamla-Motown Appreciation Society.
Yet and still one of my most favorite Supremes songs; "Time Changes Things". And yes, time changes things it's true.
Hang On Bill was a reworking of Hold On Pearl.
Doesn"t she sound a bit like Carolyn Crawford on Camel Walk?
Concerning Operator, TCMSC doesn't give a clue. In the mono Mary Wells 2-fer on Kent, Keith Hughes doesn't list specific musicians for tracks but theorizes that the general musicians of the era, the Joe Hunter Band, would likely be used. But since it is Smokey producing his compositions, it is possible that Marv Tarplin's services were utilized.
Wonderful, wonderful music and great company! Thanks John. Thanks all. See you in 1963!
Thanks John and all. See you next week.
